Sims 4 Slow Download for Mac

Hi,

I bought the disk a couple of days ago (yes I know the disks are for PC only, I only used the activation code which is what I was told to do). I have been trying to download this game for about 2 days. It is taking absolutely ages and there is no logical reason as to why. Our internet speed is pretty good so that isn't the problem and there isn't much else being dowloaded most of the time.

I have paused it at times and have had to restart origin because it freezes/doesn't pause.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you try this - In Origin go to Preferences then the Advanced tab. Scroll down and enable Safe Mode downloading. Now try and download it.

  • This seems to be a problem with many of the digital downloads no matter what kind of computer you are running. My suggestion is to uninstall and reinstall Origin.

    - Make sure you are in Finder then click Go in the menu bar. Hold down Alt and the hidden Library folder will show up. Click on the Library folder.

    - You now need to check in the following folders for any Origin files and folders:

    Application Support (Origin)

    Caches (Origin, com.ea.Origin)

    Preferences (com.ea.Origin.plist)

    Saved Application state (com.ea.Origin.savedState)

After you've trashed them, empty the trash then restart your Mac. Then redownload and reinstall Origin.

Open a Finder window and click on your Macintosh HD in the left hand section under Devices (if it's not there click on Finder in the menu bar then Preferences. Select the Sidebar tab and make sure Hard Disks is ticked under Devices), open Library, then delete the Origin folder.

Open Disk Utility and Repair Permissions - Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility

Then restart, then redownload Origin and try. Make sure you don't have anything else open.

    Thanks for that!
However I tried those things in order exactly and I thought it had fixed it but it then did the same thing unfortunately.

This is probably pretty farfetched and I know you're not an EA representative, but do you reckon there would be a way to have the game (MAC) sent out to me on a disk or USB for installation that way?

    Just a thought I had.

@Bluebellflora I just tried it and all seemed to be going well and it got the furthest it's ever accomplished (46%) when it seemed to stop downloading again.

I'm just going to keep trying until it gets there I guess... :/

Hopefully it will get there. Do you know who fast your internet speed is?

It got there! :D Thanks so much!

My internet speed is approx. 3.20

    Is that good or bad?

Lovely 🙂 Not sure what you mean by 3.20. It's normally done by speed. For example my speed at home is 50mbps (megabits per second), at work it is 250mbps per second, at my sister's it is 6mbps per second. If yours is 3.2mbps then that would account for the slow download speed. But you got there in the end!

It's telling me on speedtest.net that I have a download speed of 3.70 mbps, but it's not unreasonably slow with anything else. I certainly don't notice that it's slow.

    Thanks for your help
