Hi, my Sims 4 game is not working properly again. I’m at the end of my rope at this point 😞
I’ve done everything everyone says and it just will not work. My PC has all the requirements, I’ve removed my sims 4 folder and started fresh and it’s still acting the same. Removed my mods entirely and it’s still not working right. I’ve cleared the EA cache and recently my PC took 7 hours to complete a repair install of windows. All that time and it didn’t do anything for my game. I’ve even repaired my game and it’s just not working.
it takes ten + minutes to even show up then takes forever to finally launch. Once in game the game lags so bad I can’t play it. My graphics driver is up to date and so is my windows.
I really don’t know what to do. It’s almost like I can never play again because nothing I do fixes it. I bought my PC bc it was recommended on here and then I also did everything recommended here to fix my game and it still hasn’t fixed.
while playing it freezes with a circle and says not responding (I’m in windowed mode) every few seconds then the screen turns white then it plays again and same cycle repeats barely 3 seconds later.
eventually I plan to upgrade the RAM on my PC but I don’t think that’s the issue at this point.
Hi,
I am reaching out again about my Sims 4 game.
i have exhausted all options I’ve been given to fix my game from doing a repair install of windows (that took 7+ hours to do), repairing game, reinstalling the EA app, to starting with a new folder and a new game from scratch and even just removing the mods folder from my original files. I also cleared the cache files from the EA app.
the game takes over 10 minutes to even launch so I will click play and EA tells me it’s already open yet no window appears with the game for many minutes. When I finally get in after endless loading screens my game lags severely, has a spinning circle and freezes and then my PC says it’s not responding. Then it crashes and I have to force quit.
At this point I don’t think I am doing anything wrong and it’s the game itself. Such a shame that I spent hundreds on this game and over $1000 on this PC and it never works! Nothing I do ever last more than a few days of gameplay before it stops working correctly again. What else can I do? My laptop is just about 5 years old. It’s not that old and I played for a good ten years on my old HP that wasn’t even a gaming PC before my game stopped working (I played 3 and 4).

Hi @smilelikemiles We can rule out if it's the game itself by testing it pure "vanilla", which means doing the kinds of tests you've done but in a specific order. The game does load and not lag in a vanilla game, and it doesn't just crash in one. If you get the symptoms you describe in a pure vanilla game, then I hate to say it, but ... it's something in either your hardware (it was SIms 3 that let me know my power supply was dying back in 2014) or something else in how your computer itself is running -- too many other things going on, perhaps. We'll try to stop as many of those things in this test as possible
Here's the order for a vanilla test with minimal background activity:
- Open Task Manager and quit running any tasks that are optional
- Turn off all syncing apps (OneDrive etc.)
- Drag the folder The Sims 4 out of the Electronic Arts folder to your desktop. Make sure it's moved, not copied.
- Now open the EA App, and then launch Sims 4 from it.
- Once it's running, open your Options and set all the ones under Other that half to do with anything online to off.
- In the main menu, select New and play in a premade household in a basegame world -- Willow Creek or Oasis Springs.

Thanks I will try this when I maybe attempt it tomorrow or later tonight if I can find the time.
i am not computer smart but if its a hardware issue what would I do? I simply cannot afford a new PC and don’t know when and if I can considering this one was very expensive. It’s just about 5 years old and I take good care of it and don’t download anything weird onto it so I’m not sure why there would be any issues.
I did try a vanilla game as you explained above and it didn’t work unfortunately. But the task manager thing- I couldn’t tell you what is and isn’t important in the background processes so I don’t want to end anything that shouldn’t be ended.
my PC has been running slow so it’s definitely not just my game but I already had Microsoft look into it and I definitely had windows errors so I did a repair install of it. I do want to get more RAM for my PC and I plan to do that soon, but I was trying to get this all sorted out first. I can’t seem to get anyone to figure out why my PC is so slow.

hi im sorry no one here is helping you. but the only issue about your laptop is that you are running it with an HDD. its an extremeeellyy slow form of storage that isnt used anymore nowadays to run pcs. nowadays HDDs are mostly used for backup storage as a cheaper option for bigger backups. an HDD in this age is completely unusable with running windows on it. you have to get an m.2 nvme SSD installed in your laptop for it to be at useable speeds.going by your task manager screen shot and your CPU model and age my guess is that your laptop does have an m.2 nvme slot in it that isnt used and you are using the HDD in the 2.5 inch drive bay in your laptop. if your laptop does not have an m2 nvme slot -which it probably does- you can also get 2.5 inch ssd drives that go in the place of the HDD. also if you are able to get an m2 nvme installed in your laptop, you will still have the HDD useable in there. also while you are at it you also should upgrade your ram to 16gb since 8gb is absolutely not enough anymore. the actual hardware in your laptop is still fast enough for almost anything you want to run on it so please dont waste your money on a new one yet while yours is still useable with upgrades. your windows isnt the issue but i recommend doing a clean install of windows 11 on the ssd when you get it installed. your system is supported by windows 11 and for security and updates its better to use the latest os and windows 10 will lose its support in 2025 anyway. also your windows repair install taking 7 hours is entirely the HDDs fault because the HDD isn just not fast enough at accessing data. this isnt an issue with SSDs windows updates just take less than 5 minutes and a fresh install wont take longer than an hour. windows 11 does have kind of better memory management and update management too so it will help too.
