Sims 4 will not load (steam)

Hi,

I have taken out all mods for the sims 4, but it doesn't load anymore and the only way i can close it is via task manager.

does anyone know a way to get the game to launch?

  • @mwdwn  As a test, please try playing in a clean user folder.  Move the entire Sims 4 folder out of Documents > Electronic Arts and onto your desktop, and when you launch the game, if it launches, a clean folder will spawn with no content.  (Your saves and other content will be intact in the folder you moved but temporarily not read by the game.)  Don't add anything to the new folder yet; just let me know whether you can get far enough to start a new save and play in live mode for a bit.

If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

Please also post a screenshot of any error message you see.

    Hi,

the game now launches and plays fine

    what do i do now?

  • @mwdwn  You can now test your old content in the new Sims 4 folder.  Start with any mods or custom content you want to use going forward.  If you have a lot of files to sort through, the 50/50 method can make the process much more efficient:

Once you've done that, you can transfer over the contents of the saves and Tray folders, plus UserSettings.ini if you care about the login rewards, and Screenshots and Recorded Videos as well if those matter to you.  The rest can be discarded; the game will create new files as necessary.
