Sims 4 won’t open May 2023
My game isn’t opening, it says on the EA App that I don’t even have it installed. I managed to open it an hour ago but somehow my backed up CC & saves folders from five years ago had switched places with my current ones.
The CC folder the game had when it managed to open still contained the same mods I use now (actually I think it combined with my modern one, since it had the up to date MCCC). The only mods I use currently are the height slider & MCCC which were both in the folder when the game successfully opened.
As for the saves, there were over 300 in the old folder that the game opened with, but that not my current folder. The game is not opening with the modern saves despite the fact there weren’t any problems before, but it is opening with the 300+ old ones. I can’t figure out what’s wrong.
I’ve tried repairing the game but nothing happens at all. It’s not that the repair doesn’t work, it’s that it doesn’t even start. I’ve tried multiple times. It’s driving me insane. I’ve just went in & deleted the pre 2020 saves in the modern folder but I’m still getting the same message “You don’t have access: This title may have been downloaded to your device by another user who owns the game. [etc]”. Occasionally, it will instead say “there was a problem on our end, close the app & try again later” (or whatever it says).
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I really want to play the game 😭
@KPRavenclaw It sounds like you have a couple different issues going on here. One is that Sims 4 is reading the wrong user folder, which may or may not be related to OneDrive changing some settings on you. Here's how to find the correct folder:
https://sims4.crinrict.com/eng/2018/07/how-to-find-your-user-folder/
And here's a guide for managing OneDrive settings:
The "you don't have access" error can usually be cleared up by running an EA App recovery and restarting your computer.
https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/
Then you can try repairing.
In the future, if the App is acting up, close it (Exit, not just Xing out the window) and kill the EABackgroundService in the Task Manager. Or restart your computer.
