sims autonomously use inferniate

Product: The Sims 4 Platform:PC

Which language are you playing the game in? English

How often does the bug occur? Random

What is your current game version number? 1.56.52.1020

What expansions, game packs, and stuff packs do you have installed? All expansion packs, Realm of Magic, Strangerville, Parenthood, Vampires, Spa Day, Laundry Day Stuff, Vintage Glamour Stuff and free stuff Steps:

How can we find the bug ourselves? Having a spellcaster who knows the spell inferniate, in a club that encourages spellcasting, start a gathering.

What happens when the bug occurs? Sims autonomously using the spell inferniate on their own house or items like plants, sofas and potions while in a club gathering that encourages casting spells.

What do you expect to see? Sims not autonomously using the spell inferniate on their own house or items.

Have you installed any customization with the game, e.g. Custom Content or Mods? Not installed.

Did this issue appear after a specific patch or change you made to your system? Not to my knowlege

In the household is one teen spelcaster who does not know inferniate, and a young adult spelcaster cloned twice using the scientist career. They are all in a club where one of the club activities is casting spells. This caused them to cast spells like inferniate autonomously during a gathering.

I suppose the Sims4 developers did not predict this.
You can't even call it a game bug because everything works correctly as intended. The only advice I see is to choose a different place for the meeting at the club. Maybe the park or if you have Island Living - the beach?

    I don't work for EA
  • Ohohoho...

Now this gives me an idea of making a magical battlefield on one lot for club members; I didn't know you could do that with clubs.

  • Same thing here. Started a witch coven in Glimmerbrook for the local youths. Spent forever decorating the main witch's house since she holds gatherings there. Then boom, first gathering, the second I look away she's set her garden on fire.

    ...Her lifetime aspiration? Freelance botanist.

It's freelance, alright. As in, this terrible landscaping had better be free!

For real though we need a way to disable autonomous use of certain spells. And before you say use a mod, I'm on PS4. Perhaps if EA paid more attention to fixing their game instead of leaving it to the modding community to repair their mistakes, those of us unfortunate enough to play on console wouldn't constantly find ourselves in this position -- with a bug (or terribly thought-out game mechanic) that cannot be changed, and no real way around it other than "don't cast spells at the witch club." Thrilling.

The same thing is happening to me since the last patch, too. I am on PC and use mods but it happens without mods too and I haven't found a way to disable those particular spells yet (MCCC does not list magic as autonomous actions that could be disabled via the Tuner, for example). I don't understand why obnoxious spells like that had to become autonomous, we really DO need an option to turn that off.

That said, Inferniate is far from the only spell being used by them autonomously now. Spellcasters even use copypasto (A LOT), autonomously TURN OFF their Transportliate (explains why they were walking like regular plebs all of a sudden again), Zipzap on ANY electronics (destroying effectively every single electronic item in the household in no time if left unchecked) and then also Repairio on items that cannot even break (like potions), effectively doing nothing except for clogging the queue. Whenever I play my 4 people household, I catch at least one of them casting some **bleep** whenever I don't pay attention (it's funny because seeing Sephiroth from FF7 set all kinds of **bleep** on fire like the - pyromanic - madman he is is kinda hilarious but WTH)...

I don't know, it feels like not playing spellcasters or turning off autonomy completely seems to be the safest option at the moment. I hope EA fixes this. Maybe it's related to certain traits like Evil or certain likes / dislikes, haven't tried yet.

(And yes, I can confirm it's absolutely not mods causing this, I took out all my mods to test it and it still happened, so since it happens on PS too, we can safely assume the patch screwed spellcasters).

edit: Oh WOW, I didn't even realise that this is an OLD report -- but anyway, I'm just gonna leave it here in case someone else experiences the same stuff after the recent patch...
