Sims Family disappeared and world state has reset.

Hello,

My issue has happened multiple times now and I'm about to chuck the entire computer in the bin.

My Sims file has completely reverted to default. My original Sim is in my library, their soon-to-be wife is "not in world" in a single household, and their adopted kid is nowhere to be seen. I have spent hours setting this file up, and then moved a Sim from this household out and into a different pre-set family, When I tried to go back to my original household, it had disappeared and now all households have returned to default. Even un-played ones.

I am so devastated. I have had such a horrific day, turned to the Sims for dopamine and then my family that I've been setting up for ages is completely gone.

What do I do to get them back? Is there a way to go back a couple of save files?

@TaylorKate1998  I'm not sure whether you triggered this or the game had a hiccup.  The way you've described it, your data should still be intact.  Even if you'd somehow started a new save, the old one would still be present.

Anyway, please go into Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 4 > saves and look at the timestamps on all the files, including the ones that end in .verx.  These are the backups for a given save with the same number.  The goal here would be to find a backup save with a timestamp as close to the point where you lost the data as possible without going past it.  For example, if you noticed your save data reverted at 8 pm, you'd want to test the save from 7:45 before the one from 6:30.

Here's how to recover backup saves:

Please use the manual method—I find it's easier to keep things straight that way.  There's no harm in testing all of them.  But this assumes that you have an older save to revert to, and I'm not sure from your description whether that's the case.

  • @TaylorKate1998  What exactly did you do between when you finished setting up the original save and when you realized it had reverted?  For example, did you quit the game and reload, did you start a new save to create another sim, or anything else?  The reason I ask is that a disappearing save, where the file itself vanished and you're left with either an old copy or none at all, is very different from the save file staying intact but not recording your progress.

Hi @puzzlezaddict, the only thing I did was add a pre-set Sim family to "My Households" and then moved two Sims into that household from the original. I then saved, exited to menu, then tried to find my old family only to see that everything had reset to "default". Did I do something to cause this?
