Sims game crashes when I save

Every time I try to save my game, it crashes and closes the whole window, making the game unplayable.   First, I tried repairing the game on origin, but that didn't work.

Then, I followed the advice of someone and did the following: I renamed my folder The Sims 4 to Sims 4, which created a new folder. Then I opened the game and none of my saves were there, which the person on the forum said was supposed to happen, and then i started a game, created two sims bought a house and placed a tree then saved, and it didn't crash. Then, I did what it said to do, which is moving the "save" and "tray" folders to the new "Sims 4" folder, then opening Sims again. But, unlike what it said, when i reopened sims, my saves weren't there and it was making me start over again, so for some reason it didn't work.

I then uninstalled and reinstalled the Sims, and then opened it again and my saves were there but it STILL crashed when I saved the game.

I've tried everything I know to do; all that, and I even restarted my computer and it did nothing to help.  My hard drive isnt full, so I'm pretty sure it's not a problem with storage.

Is there anything at all I can do to fix the Sims and still have all my saves?

I'd be so devastated if I had to start all over again.

  • @IhasCat  Try using "save as" rather than save.  It's not necessarily likely to help, but it's worth trying.

If that doesn't make a difference, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

Please also let me know whether you have OneDrive set to automatically sync the contents of Documents with cloud storage.  If you do, please disable auto syncing.

Before you change the settings though, be sure to move or copy your Sims 4 folder (the one in Documents\Electronic Arts) elsewhere, because unsyncing often moves the folder to cloud storage and off of your hard drive, rather than your having access to a copy in each location.  You can put the folder back once OneDrive is no longer syncing.

I tried the save as suggestion and  it did not work.  I do not know how to find where to run a dxdiag because although my computer is windows, I do not have a windows search bar.  (it is really aggravating)

Also, according to my microsoft store I do not have OneDrive, and as you can see in the corner of my screen I have no cloud icons to click on.  Although, if I search in my pc in files, there is a file titled "OneDriveSettiingSyncProvider.dll", but I don' t have any apps it'll let me open with.  I am now even more confused.  What do I do?

@IhasCat  To run a dxdiag, hit the Windows key and R, which will open the run box.  Type dxdiag, and enter.  Wait until the dxdiag finishes running, then click Save all information, and save the dxdiag as a text file to your desktop.  You can then attach it to a post.
