Hello When I play the sims 4 seasons in winter in Willowcreek the snow does not appear on the ground. I can hear the snow and I can see it falling but the ground stays green and doesn't turn white a...
@noodledxck I take it you've waited long enough to confirm that you don't get any snow cover? Does this happen in a new save as well? Please start one for comparison; you can just let it run for a while, no need to spend much effort on it.
If the snow doesn't appear in the new save either, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.
Hello again! I just came back from trying it out on a new save the whole afternoon and the results were sadly the same. I tried to tweak the length of my seasons from 28 to 7 then to 14 in hopes that maybe I just bugged it out to no avail. I even tried to force a blizzard in but still no snow cover. I should say that I do have mods installed but nothing that alters weather or terrain itself so I don't know if it's because of that.
Here's the dxdiag info and some pics if you want to see what I'm experiencing. I think that was by the 4th day of winter on the new save but that's the same scenario in my current save which is at a few days til the season ends.
@noodledxck Please make sure that Sims 4 is using your dedicated graphics card. You can see the card it's using in the config.log, about 30 lines down; the file is in Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4. If it's using the integrated AMD chip, let me know.
Just for good housekeeping, please also run a couple of basic checks on your Windows system files—the dxdiag lists a few errors of a basic Windows process.
Hit Windows key-X
Choose either “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator),” whichever option is offered
Inside the window that appears, copy and paste “DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth” without quotes into the window, and enter
The system will start validating soon. If it throws an error, please list it here
After it reaches 100%, hit Windows key-X again
Again, choose “PowerShell (Administrator)” or “Command prompt (Administrator)”
Inside the window, copy and paste “sfc /scannow” without quotes into the window, and enter
Post the message you receive here
Finally, let me know whether you're playing through Origin or Steam.
@puzzlezaddict Hello! Thank you so much for helping me! It really means a lot. And for even telling me how to do some basic checks. Here's the message I got after I ran things through Powershell:
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them. For online repairs, details are included in the CBS log file located at windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For offline repairs, details are included in the log file provided by the /OFFLOGFILE flag.
I hope that helps. I also looked at the config.log file and my Nvidia settings and it's set on that chip. The game's running through origin, btw.
@noodledxck Good, DISM and sfc did their job, so hopefully Windows won't be throwing any more errors worth pursuing. Just because it's easy to do, try clearing Origin's cache:
and repairing the game: open your Origin game library, right-click on the Sims 4 icon, and select Repair.
Please also make sure that you don't have laptop mode enabled in the graphics settings. Your laptop doesn't need it—you should be able to play on ultra settings if you want. If you've turned down other settings, please try the default high or ultra profile (you'll need to restart the game to see the effects) and see whether you get snow. You can test your existing save if you'd like, no need to play through a winter in a new save.
The original poster in this thread needed to install a new graphics driver, which in your case would mean first doing a clean uninstall of the current driver. Since that's a bit of work, I'm suggesting other simpler steps first, in case one of them helps without the extra time and effort. If none of them does though, here's how to do a clean uninstall and reinstall.
Next, take your computer completely offline—disable wifi and/or pull the ethernet cord—and double-click the DDU.exe. Take note of where the file will land, and click Extract. If it's easier, you can copy the path and then paste it into the address bar in a File Explorer window. Open the folder and then launch Display Driver Uninstaller.exe, and you'll get a message that you're not in Safe Mode. Click OK, then go to Options and enable Safe Mode dialog. Here's a screenshot of what your options should look like; make sure the box in red is checked:
Close options, and the DDU, and then open the DDU.exe again. For launch options, choose "Safe Mode (Recommended)," and then click Reboot to Safe Mode (you'll need your password, so find it before rebooting). Once you login, you'll see this:
In the blue box, choose GPU, then Nvidia if it's not already showing. Then click Clean and Restart (red box).
Once your computer has rebooted, now back in normal mode, run the driver install .exe as an admin: right-click on the download and select "Run as administrator."
@puzzlezaddict Hi again! I'm really glad to hear from you so soon. I appreciate all the help I can get. Sadly, I did the repair and it didn't change anything at all. Since I was running out of options, I did the legitimately crazy thing to do and spent the past 5 hours doing the 50/50 method of mod purging and turns out... it was INDEED a mod that messed my game up. Apparently, I had a rogue file of an old mod that added a venue and that's what caused it. It's now working again and I can't believe I would miss snow this much. Haha
@2muchsun Hi! If you have the basemental drugs mod, it's probably an old version of the ksuihuh_venue list that's causing the problem. In my mods folder, I had its rogue old file that wasn't in the basemental folder so I was unable to delete it before putting in the updated version. Hope this helps!
@2muchsun Sorry, I just did a quick check (I answered remembering from the top of my head haha) and apparently it's with the AEP mod, not the Basemental one. You should still try and look for the said .package and keep the new one. Either way, anything that messes with venues or lots is a safe bet. 🙂
i had the aep mod and the venue list but deleted it and for some reason i still cant see snow of the ground, even though i can see my sims slip in the snow?
