stuck on saving screen

I never had this problem after snowy escape, but this started happening to me after the paranormal stuff pack came out (I do not have this pack). It has occurred multiple times - both when clicking Save as well as Save & Exit. The Save spinning wheel pops up and keeps going forever. If I go to my desktop to try to exit the program, 'x'-ing out doesn't work - I have to force quit in Task Manager. Please help - I would like to save my game and keep progressing.
