The Sims 4 Black Screen and Crashing when Opening the Game

Hi There,

When I try to run the sims, it goes into fullscreen mode as black screen. Maybe 3-5 seconds later it crashes and closes.

I tried opening in windowed mode and I can see the blue background and the edge of the green gem, but after 2 seconds it crashes again. Windowed mode now goes straight to the black screen.

I've seen some similar issues with this and i've tried a few different fixes but they aren't working. Please help!

- Repairing seems frozen (won't change percentage for hours)

- Removed mods

- Moved Sims 4 folder out to create a new one

- Cleaned cache from EA and game

- Opening in Windowed mode

Attached is the dxdiag report.

Thank you in advance 🙂

  • @EloquentHalo  Thanks for providing a dxdiag, which is full of Sims 4 breakpoint errors.  This type of error can have a few different causes, but at least this narrows it down somewhat.  However, the issue with repairing should be addressed first.  For that, please clear the EA App's cache:

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/faq/clear-cache-to-fix-problems-with-your-games/

and restart your computer, then try again to repair with nothing running aside from the EA App.  If that doesn't work, and you use a third-party antivirus, clear the cache and restart again, then disable the antivirus (temporarily) and try again to repair.

I would also like to know how much system memory is in use after you restart your computer and before you open any apps.  Please restart and wait five minutes, then open the Task Manager and let me know what overall Memory use you see.  If it's more than 3.5 GB, click the Startup tab, take a screenshot of the list of startup apps, and post it here.

    Thank you @puzzlezaddict you legend!

The repair was done within a minute and it's working now.

If you're curious, my system memory at start up with no apps open was 21.3 MB
