The Sims 4 files are,, wrong? tray, saves, mod, etc. folders are replaced

Hi, so, my Sims 4 files are not there & replaced with many pack folders, "_Installer", "Data", "Delta", "Game," & "support." This is better explained with a picture, however, I will mention that I installed Origin and The Sims 4 on an external drive because my laptop only has 117 GB. I don't know if that has something to do with it, but I can not find any of the expected tray, save, mods, cache, custom music, and all of that. The game is still playable though it is very laggy, which is how I discovered the issue because I was trying to report it but there were no save files or config.log to be found.

Thank you in advance <3

  • @Colfen020802 What you are looking at is the game core files. Do NOT mess with them! The game user files by default will be on the system device C: under the user documents folder. These files can also be relocated by using the operating system (Windows) function symbolic link. I do not recommend using symbolic link unless you really know how to use it. The game user files your looking for should be located c:\users\your user name\documents\Electromic Arts\The Sims 4 This would be the default location IF you are not using OneDrive. If OneDrive is active Windows will move new files and files that have been modified from the user documents folder to the users OneDrive folder to be synced. As the game does not know about OneDrive or symbolic link this can (and does) cause problems for the game. This is why I recommend not to relocate the game user files.  hth

  • @Colfen020802  The Sims 4 user folder, with saves and other user data inside, is always stored in Documents > Electronic Arts regardless of where you've installed the game.  So that's where to look.

    Since your game is lagging, I'd also like to see a dxdiag for this computer.  You can attach one to a post here.

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

    And let me know whether the game ever ran well on this computer.  If it did, please test a new save to see whether it runs better than your current one.

    @roberta591 ,

    Thank you for the reply, after looking at the path to the location of the save file I was playing in I did find files were stored in OneDrive (C:\Users\(my name)\OneDrive\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\saves\Slot_00000002.save). If it creates any more problems I'll see what I can do as I do not have enough storage to download the sims 4 in OS (C🙂. Thank you for making that distinction though & bringing this to my attention 🙂

    @puzzlezaddict ,

    As I said to the previous person, I managed to find the location of all the folders & files I was looking for. I have attached the DxDiag. However, the sims 4 has run pretty well on this laptop, with higher visual settings, as well as long-running saves with lots of sims, & I play without mods so it wouldn't be affected by that. Alas, I tested a new save & it run well. The save I was playing in (that I had an issue with) ran well the first day of playing but today, the 2nd, it was rage-inducing lol.
