The Sims 4: Get To Work Expansion Pack Won't Install!!

I bought The Sims 4 Get To Work expansion pack today and attempted to install it, but every time the installation window pops up, I click continue, and it tells me to install The Sims 4 update - but the thing is, I already did yesterday before realizing that I would even buy the expansion pack, and yet it consistently keeps telling me to install the update no matter what I do.

I've poked around on other questions, but none were really the same as what I'm asking. One suggested to restart and login to Origin on the website, which I did and didn't see an improvement. I've tried to install it as administrator, which usually does the trick, and nothing. I right-clicked the icon in my Origin to check for updates, and even that is telling me that I'm all up to date. Every time I try, I still get the dialogue box telling me to install an update that is already installed.

Is anyone else having this issue? Shed some light on this situation please?

I was so excited about this expansion pack, but even I should know that nothing comes without a catch -____-

  • So, after looking around some more, I've managed to solve my own question.

For those of you with the same problems, my solution is below:

After snooping around on the Sims 4 forums, someone suggested to just go through Origin by opening the Origin window, clicking "Origin" at the top bar, click "Redeem Product Code" and enter your GTW product code.

Afterwards, it will do nothing. This is the part that freaked me out. Don't freak out - it'll be ok.

Because Get To Work is an expansion pack, it won't show up in your Origin library and won't even show that its downloading. Instead, you have open The Sims 4 and click the Plumbobs button on the tippy-top of the opening page, and there is where you will see that you "own" the GTW expansion pack.

As for what happens after that, I don't know. Mine is still downloading so I can't say at this time.

  • What if you had bought it online, how can I redeem my code then? I went into the thing that shows you all the packs they have and it says I own get to work but once I start playing it says I don't own it.

@FizziestOfFangs I don't know if you've already resolved this issue since it's been over 6 months since you posted your question but I actually had this happen to me today, so just in case anyone else has this issue in the future, I'll post my solution. Just a bit of background: I had to uninstall my game then reinstall and found that uninstalling the base game had also uninstalled the Get to Work pack. I also bought my game online and, as you said, the GtW pack is not visible in the library so I did a little searching around on Origin and I found out how to reinstall the GtW pack (and this probably works for any other pack for that matter). I was on the Origin application (on the computer) and this is what I did:

    1. Go to the "MY GAMES" tab and hover your cursor over The Sims 4 game. A little window will appear with a grey "i" button and the orange "Play" button next to it. Click on the grey "i" button. This will take you to the details page.

    2. Scroll down and look for whichever pack you wish to reinstall, hover your cursor over it and you should see the orange "Download" button in the window that appears and there you have it! Sweet victory!

I hope this helps anyone who has this problem in the future ^-^

I don’t know if this is a Mac problem or what but I had to completely remove the game from my computer in order to be able to download the expansion pack. Nothing else would work and it’s not that big of a deal because I only had one save that I had just started but it was very inconvenient and time consuming. That being said it is still infuriating that we pay this much money for a game and it doesn’t even work properly half the time. At this point the company is just doing everything thing they can for money and I feel like it’s not even worth it anymore.
