There's a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game. 1.109

Hello fellow Simmers,

After successfully downloading the new update of 18 September 2024 I couldn't launch the game. It told me to reinstall everything due to a problem with the files. I do not play with mods and have most packs, so that's going to take a while ☹️ I tried repairing and restarting first but to no avail, the message stayed the same. I wondered why this is happening and thought it would be wise to let the team know. I saved my inlog rewards and save file so will report back if it works after the reinstall.

I run my game on a PC only used to play the Sims 4 but it still runs on Windows 7 Ultimate.

  • I've merged a few posts together as they're all about the same error.

@M_Starlighter @king4510411 @Cinthilaa  Please try forcing DirectX 9 mode.  Open the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and enter -dx9 in the command line box.  If that doesn't help, please run a dxdiag and attach it to a post.

    https://help.ea.com/en-us/help/pc/how-to-gather-dxdiag-information/

@zippygabby2  Please update your graphics driver, whiich is from 2018.  You can find a new driver here:

    https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/

Choose GeForce, 900 series, 980, Windows 7 64-bit, and you'll see a driver from July.  Download it and run it as an admin: right-click the download and select "Run as administartor."  Choose the Custom (not Express) install method, and check the box to perform a clean install.  Restart afterwards and before trying to play.

@Aldreena  Please do the above, except choose 500M series, 560M, Windows 7 64-bit, and you should see a driver from 2018 rather than your current one from 2013.

For anyone who still can't play, please look for new errors in the Reliability Monitor.  Hit Windows key-R and enter "perfmon /rel" without quotes, and you'll see a chart of errors and updates with a column for each day.  Today is on the right.

Try to launch Sims 4 again, then look for an error that happened at exactly this time.  If you find one, double-click it to see more details, then copy that info and paste it into a reply here.  If you don't see a new error, check back in an hour or so—the Reliability Monitor doesn't always update right away.

    Hello!

I've had a long long break since playing sims last time. Couple of days ago I opened Electronic Arts, got the newest update for Sims 4 and after that the game never launched again. When im trying to launch, Im getting this notification telling that I have some problems in the installation, install again.

    What I've done so far:

-Installed the game again few times (also to different location in computer). Ive also used Revo for uninstalling the Sims

-Deleted the Electronic Arts folder including mods.

-Re-installed the EA app and cleared the cache

-Fixed the game in EA app

Everytime same ending. I can't launch the game anymore. Any ideas what I could still try or this was the ending for my playing? I apologize if I use some wrong terms since my Sims and computer are in different language.

  • jenna89  If your computer runs Windows 7, please force the game to launch in DirectX 9 mode.  Open the EA App, select Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx9 to the command line box.

If that doesn't help, or you run Windows 10 or 11, please provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.

Hi puzzlezaddict, I just got the EA subscription on steam and im trying to play Madden 25 but its giving me the same error as above ("there's a problem with the setup. Please reinstall the game"), i cant do the same steps as you've mentioned on this forum because i cant manage the game as it says i need to do it on Steam.

    can you please assist?

  • Hello, i am receiving this error and i'm unsure about what to do. When I try to launch the sims 4 i receive an error stating "There is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall the game."

This is the first time i'm trying to play the sims 4 on this computer, so there shouldn't be an issue with any corrupted files. I reinstalled and repaired the game but the issue still remains.

I am playing on windows 7 and attached dxdiag.txt,  is there anything i can do to fix this problem?

  • sadiecassel07  I've merged your post with the master thread for this issue on Windows 7.  Please try forcing DirectX 9 mode.  Open the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, and add -dx9 to the command line box.

  • Back in Nov 2024, I stopped playing with The Sims (laptop had other issues).  When I was finally able to get the laptop fixed and tried playing the game, in May 2025, it just said there was an error at set up.  After one of the later updates this summer (either July or August), it now starts loading but then stops.  I have tried repair and reinstalling the game.  I never use mods or CCs.

The jpegs show the error messages, the first 2 from May, the latest one is the last one I get.  I also added the DxDiag.txt that was mentioned earlier.

karelmapr  Thanks for the dxdiag.  Please force the game to launch in DirectX 9 mode.  Open the EA App, click Sims 4 > Manage > View properties, add -dx9 to the box, and save.

Separately, is there a reason you're running Windows 7 on this computer?  Its hardware is the same age as or newer than Windows 10, and I'm surprised it has any support for 7 at all.  So you might do better installing 10 on the laptop—it should fix the current Sims 4 error and maybe some other system issues.

I will try the DirectX9 mode, see if that works.

I've had the laptop for years, it runs Windows 7, otherwise is OK, why change it just for The Sims?  Yes, I'll get a new laptop in a few months, but not related to The Sims, if I can play it in my old laptop until then, that's all I'd like (from this).
