Video Card Error - At a loss

Hi,

I've read so many of these forums regarding video card errors for the sims 4.

The computer i have has never has issues running the sims 4 and all the add ons I've got, it has been a while since i played on my computer after moving and I finally got my computer set back up after some issues with my screen... I havent added any more packs since i last played, its just been a while. I factory reset my computer because she is a little older (Dell Inspiron 530 desktop) and got stuck in a repair loop. All good, all reinstalled etc.

I had the VCRuntime140 error come up and battled with that, repaired the game, all was fine eventually.

Then i got the video card error "Can't run the sims 4 with the video card in this system. Please check that the video card meets the minimum requirements..." etc.

After heaps of scrolling and reading, i have since checked the requirements against my system to which is all passed.

I am on windows 10, with Intel core 2 duo E6550 with the Intel G33 with 3 GB of RAM

Ive tried to update my drivers but they are saying they are all up to date

Ive made sure there are no mods installed and I still have the same message come up, I dont know how my computer used to run it fine and now it cant.

Any other advice would help immensely!

I must note I do get this screen that comes up everytime my computer boots up after moving my VGA cord to another port (there was 2, the other one cause the screen to have colourful lines in it, the one it is in now doesnt, might add photo of the lines and the port it is in now if i can in comments. The screen says:

"Attention: Unsupported Video Configuration Detected

Action is required

This computer has an add-in graphics card, but the monitor cable is (photo cuts off screen woops) into the integrated video connector.

To attach the monitor cable to the add-in graphics card:

1.shut down the computer

2. Plug the monitor cable into the add in graphics card connector. this may require a video adapter or video adapter cable

3. turn on computer

I usually press F1 to continue and then it will load up as normal. Ive never had this come up before and nothing has changed since i last used the computer fine.... I am not very computer savvy i just google and try my best until i fix the problem haha please help

  • @libbyjb  Your dedicated graphics card is not showing up at all in your dxdiag.  I don't know whether it's dead, or the slot it sits in is dead, or the card or its power cable (if applicable) isn't seated properly, but the fact that Windows doesn't detect it means it can't be used for anything else.  So your computer is using the graphics chip integrated into the processor, and that chip is too old to run Sims 4, at least the current version.  You do have the newest driver for that chip installed, but the driver is from 2012.

You can certainly try connecting the monitor directly into the graphics card, which is the correct configuration anyway.  If Windows then detects the card, it should download an appropriate driver for you, and you can then restart and try to play.

The only other thing I can suggest here is you try to troubleshoot the issue with the graphics card.  That can mean taking it out, cleaning the motherboard slot and the card's socket for supplementary power if it has one, reseating the card, then blowing out the power connector and reconnecting it at both ends if the card does take supplementary power.  (If you don't know what I'm talking about, just look at the card: either it has a fairly prominent power cord inserted or it doesn't.)  If your motherboard has two PCIe slots, you can also try installing the card into the other slot, which would help if the first slot isn't working anymore.

If you can't fix your graphics card though, then you won't be able to play the current version of Sims 4 on this computer.  You can try downloading the Legacy Edition instead.  And you could in theory buy another graphics card.  But that would be a waste of money if the issue isn't your current card, and it might be a waste anyway considering the age of this computer.  At this point, any and all components could start to fail, and fixing or replacing them would cost more than the value of the computer itself.

Thank you so much for your advice! I will try give a go with sussing the graphics card! It’s possible it got jolted in the move and is loose or as you say, probably dead 😭😭 but will try my best!

It’s very possible I might just need to let this computer go and save for a new one: she’s had a good run!
