Video card not working

“Unable to start:

Can't run The Sims 4 with the video card in this system. Please check that the video card meets the minimum specifications and that the latest video drivers are installed.

I've tried to repair without any mods or saves or anything like that but that didn't work. I kept them in and tried to start it, that didn't work. I'm pretty sure my computer can handle the game, but I don't know what else to do. I've tried to look up how to fix it, but i don't understand what I'm supposed to be looking for to fix or update anything. This popped up after I did the most recent update. I've been downloading a lot of mods today but I don't think that's affecting it. Should i unplug my hard drive (the game is on an external hard drive) and see if that works? I don't know what to do

  • Alright thank you anyway! I’ll see if I can get someone to repair it thanks for the help

  • neither of them worked. I followed the directions. They both just end up with the game opening, showing a white screen then closing. Is there anything else I can try or am I just gunna have to not play the sims 4 on this computer.

@goddessofbeauty  I'm not sure how to solve this, to be honest, but I do have a few other suggestions if you want to keep trying.  Longer-term, this might be a good time to consider a new system, but you're the one who gets to decide when that happens.

If you use a third-party antivirus, disable it, temporarily, and repair the game (again), then see whether you can play.  Even if you only use Windows Defender, disable Controlled Folder Access.

If that doesn't help, please create a new admin Windows account on this computer.  Make it local, as in, don't link it to your Microsoft account.  Try to play, and if the game doesn't open, it's time to do a clean uninstall and reinstall.  Here's how (different master thread, same procedure):

    https://answers.ea.com/t5/PC/CURRENT-ISSUE-Sims-4-DLC-shows-as-installed-won-t-load-in-game/m-p/12942151#uninstall

When reinstalling Sims 4 and the EA App, please use the new Windows account, and disable your antivirus before installing the App.  Don't reenable it until after you've tested the game once.  As long as you don't do anything else at the same time, your computer should be safe.

Finally, you can try using an older graphics driver rather than the newest one from Intel.  On the same download page as before, download the graphics driver dated December 29, 2022:

    https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/149090/intel-core-i38145u-processor-4m-cache-up-to-3-90-ghz/downloads.html

You'll need to clean-uninstall the current driver, since it's newer than the one you'll be using.  Here's how:

    https://crinrict.com/blog/2019/02/clean-re-install-of-graphics-drivers-with-display-driver-uninstaller-ddu.html

You can do these in whatever order you want, although I'd save the older graphics driver for last since your system might update to a newer one without telling you.  So it would be best to have done everything else first, as in, you want to know your last test is with all other interventions plus a fresh copy of the older driver.

  • Okay sorry I didn’t do anything for a few days cuz I got irritated but when I opened my computer back up it just wouldn’t launch at all now. When I try to enter through the ea app it says one error then when I click on the game icion it says preparing game forever. Should I still try what you suggest? I tried to clear the cache and add the game  to the expectations part of my McAfees firewall. The repair button doesn’t seem to be working either should I try and uninstall and reinstall the game?

@goddessofbeauty Or maybe should i try taking out the hard drive and downloading the game on my computer and seeing if my hard drive is messing it up? Could that be a possibility?

@goddessofbeauty  Your computer doesn't have enough internal storage to fit even the Sims 4 base game.  What you can do though is format the hard drive as NTFS rather than exFAT and see whether it helps.  If it contains data you don't want to lose, you could partition it instead, for example creating a 200 GB partition and formatting only that as NTFS, leaving the rest intact.  Here's a good guide:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/create-and-format-a-hard-disk-partition-bbb8e185-1bda-ecd1-3465-c9728f7d7d2e

To be clear, you'd be creating and formatting a new partition, not formatting the existing one.

  • I’m gunna do that next after I try and repair the game and see if that works  but I wanted to ask bc I’m trying to look for other solutions too just in case. Do you think I need to update the driver to a 2023/23 one and not a 2024? Would that affect it at all? Sorry if it’s a stupid question

I’m uninstalling and reinstalling and see if it will correct itself then do the partition. If you don’t have  any other solutions you have then I’ll try and look at other places or something and end this thing. Maybe there’s a place that can help or maybe there’s another other place I can look

@goddessofbeauty  Taking the computer to be examined in person is probably the next step.  There's only so much I can do from here, not nearly what a repair tech could accomplish if they had the machine in their hands.  The tech might also find this thread useful for context.  Let me know if you have any other questions.
