wall wont delete

Sims 4 base game only. I've been trying to delete or expand a wall in my house but every time I try to delete or move the wall I get a message either saying "object can't be deleted" or "selected object can't be moved into family inventory". There is nothing on the wall. I can't even change the wallpaper but it lets me add windows to the wall. I have nothing other than the base game installed. I've tried cleaning the cache folder.
