Why is the game taking so long to download?

I bought The Sims 4 yesterday. I finally got the game to actually to download today. After two and a half hours, it finally gets to 1%. I've seen many people with the same problem, but I figured I'll make a question myself since none were solved. It says it's downloading. Is it the proxy server? I turned it off, but it turns its self back on. It is understandable that many people are downloading games on Origin and that The Sims 4 is generally a big game, but this is unreasonable. I think it may had been a mistake to make all games downloaded digitally. I have a Windows 8 laptop, I don't really why its taking so long. :womanfrustrated:

Okay, some of the download times here are insane. I have Satellite internet and, even there it isn't that bad. The first thing to do is reset your connection, power cycle the modem and, reboot the computer as follows.

    1. Power-down the computer.
    2. Power-down the router (unplug it).
    3. Power-down the modem (unplug it).
    4. If you have an Ethernet cable connecting your computer to the modem, disconnect it. Wait a moment, then plug it back in.
    5. Make sure the Ethernet cable from the router is plugged securely into the back of the modem.  *Note: Wireless routers do not require a cable connection to the computers they support.
    6. Plug in the modem. Wait until all LED lights on the modem are properly lit - 1 to 5 minutes depending on your modem.
    7. Power-up the router and wait for it to be fully cycled up.
    8. Power up your computer.

Now right click Origin and choose RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR. Try the download again.

What is your Internet connection speed?

Are you on WiFi or cable?

I started downloading at around 11PM last night and woke up in the morning at 10:40AM and it had downloaded 13%! I was furious but allowed it to download whilst I was out the whole day. I got back home at 7:40PM and it had downloaded 19%! At this point I was extremely angry. But now suddenly at 8:23 its now on 54%. explanation anyone I have great Wi-Fi so that isn't an issue.

    Spoiler

There are a few things you could try:

    1. Pause and resume the download
    2. Do a Clean Boot and restart your router
    3. Add firewall/antivirus exceptions for Origin and open the needed ports
    4. When starting Origin, please make sure to run it as Administrator
