Are you playing in windowed mode?
When you say you've tried everything - what exactly have you tried?

@Coley666is right. In Game Options\Graphics, change "Display Type" to either Fulscreen or Windowed Fullscreen. Either one will remove the task bar from showing. If you don't have a tendency to switch tasks while playing the game, you'll get better gameplay using "Fullscreen" and not either "Windowed" setting.
