Writing Song option missing

So I have a "musical genius" aspriation and am supposed to write songs in order to achieve goals. I click on the instrument like the game tells me to and there is supposed to be an option to write a ...

    You must have a high enough music skill in order for these options to appear. Try leveling up your skill and they should appear.

    EDIT (Crin): Level 8 is what's needed

    Sims receive the option to write songs when they reach level 8 in the instrument.

      I am at level eight in both guitar and violin and neither provides an option to write songs.
