clicking minimizes game

I just downloaded the Sims Medieval game from Origin and I can't play it. Game starts up fine, but as soon as I open it I hear a noise as if an error message is popping up. The game loads just fine and I get to the screen where you select a game to start. It does the usual thing where it tells me, "This is for that and this is for that over there" with the arrows pointing. I'm able to click on the "next" button without issue. The problem is that there is approximately a 3"x 2" square that if I click in, the game is instantly minimized. This box just happens to be right over where I need to hit to start playing. And when I hover the mouse over the box, the goldish mouse animation for the game disappears and I'm left with the regular white mouse that I have regularly. I'm very frustrated and I don't know what to do. All I wanna do is play the game but it keeps minimizing. When it does minimize, there are no pop up windows like what the noise indicates when I open the game.
