I've never used cheats except when setting up a custom neighborhood. Only then because it is impossible to move a family of sims into a large enough home without doing so.
Oh wait, I had to use the moveObjects on/off cheat after university for a bit in TS2 until they patched so that objects didn't get stuck "in use".
