game opens in small window

Usually when I click on my (windowed mode) shortcut to start my game, it opens in a large window that fills the screen. Sometimes, though, it opens in a small window that I can't adjust, which is really an annoying way to look at the game. It seems to be the size of an Origin window. Is there a way to make the game open in a large window instead?

The game in question is The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection. I realize that it's an old game that's no longer supported. But it seems to be a general Origin issue.

  • Well, I reverted to an older backup of the game and it seems to be fine now. Not sure why that fixed it, but maybe there was something weird in my game files. Thanks for your help.

  • @diamondNell1 , you should be able to adjust the size of the window by clicking on the edge of the window and dragging it to make the window bigger.

@diamondNell1 ,  I think you can adjust which window size you want your game to open in from Origin preferences. My game always opens full screen and I'm not sure if that's due to the game resolution or an Origin preference.

  • Hi, can I ask how you managed to revert the game to an older version please? Thanks!

@lemonteajunkie , it was an older save. So say for example you've been playing in Plesantville and recently were playing the Burbs. But you haven't played the Goths for awhile so you can load up their game and play.

  • OK, that's odd cos I've only started playing, therefore I don't have any saved game files, and when I open in windowed mode I also get a tiny window opening with no way to widen it. I open it in windowed mode because otherwise it tells me I don't have direct C version 9 etc (even though I have Windows 10 and have all updated direct X versions to date).

@lemonteajunkie, Ah sounds like you need to update the Graphics Rule.sgr with your current graphics card. That usually takes care of the resolution size and the Direct X errors.
