I started playing with The Sims and The Sims Livin Large in 2001. I continued playing through Sims 2, and finally started playing Sims 3 more often after World Adventures was released (still one of my favorite TS3 packs, along with Seasons and Pets). Pre-ordered TS4 for the premium content. Played it more from the start because I was working full-time and only had about an hour of spare time to devote on it (as opposed to becoming immersed in Sims 3 for 6+ hours). Sims 4 became more immersive around the time Seasons and Pets were released. Pets have always been a must-have pack for me, ever since Unleashed came out. I love the active careers in Sims 4, just as I loved color wheel and being able to switch between live town view and live third person lot view in Sims 3. (Never did quite figure out the pattern view thing.) I also liked the Create a World program that was available for Sims 3. And yes, I miss cars from both Sims 2 and Sims 3. I find it ironic that a modder created a car that you can click on to travel, but EA never did.
I never play my game vanilla, never have. At one point, I had 36GB of mods for Sims 4, at earlier times 10 GB of mods for Sims 3, 3GB of mods for Sims 2, and towards the time Sims Double Deluxe game out, 2 GB of mods for Sims (2000). The more mods in my game, the more often I am playing that game. I still have lots of Sims mods saved on floppies.
I started playing when I was in my early 30s, and am still playing in my mid-50s. I will probably still play as long as I have a machine or emulator that can still run the game. (Or a no-cd mod (technically an .exe file) I used for Sims 2 after most machines no longer came with dvd drives.) Once Sims 2 Ultimate Collection came out of course, I no longer had a reason to use that anymore.

I love hearing that there are simmers aged 30+ yrs still playing the game. 🤗
I play 95% vanilla with TS4, only use a couple of make up CC and custom skins. When I played TS3 I had a lot of CC but my game lagged so much. TS4 has so many add on's now I feel quite content with what I have in game. Sometimes it can be a challenge to renovate a Lot but it helps to push your creative skills. 😄
