I don't think that project Rene will be TS5 based on some recent job listings.
Recently some new job listings were put up by EA, and some contained a description of what project Rene will be. Based on this, i can't see how project Rene could be ambitious enough to be considered a mainline game.
In a Character Artist II (Surface Specialist) listing (https://ea.gr8people.com/jobs/181655/character-artist-ii-surface-specialist-the-sims) it said the following:
"You will be part of the Project Rene team building out the next generation of games and creative platforms. Project Rene is a Mobile + HD cross-platform title that allows players to experience The Sims alone or with friends, without barriers, for the first time ever. Explore the dramatic lives of your Sims in the most accessible, dynamic Simulation to date. Players can create characters, customize furniture, design apartments, and more using accessible tools. "
It might be ambitious in the sense that they're trying to rekindle the sims online type of play, with a mix of what simcity(2013) tried to be, but this is definitely not sounding like mainline large game. Regardless of if i play it or not, i really hope it won't be another broken always online game.
