I might be in the same boat, but slightly farther along in the process. Are you trying to to reinstall old games files you played on a previous version of Windows, or just install from scratch on Windows 10? Do you have disks, or do you have the Ultimate Collection on Origin?
@GregEccleston11 and @diamondNell1 , if you have the Origin version of Sims 2 UC you should be able to install the game as normal, however you will need to apply the Graphics Rule Maker to the Graphics Rule.sgr file to have the game recognize your graphics card.
If you are installing from disks, you will need an external CD drive to install and play the game from. Please let me know exactly what you are doing so I can advise you further.
Thanks for the response. I have the original The Sims 2 & expansions from EA on CDs & DVDs. Not sure what you mean by Origin.
@GregEccleston11 , Origin is the EA program that allows the digital versions of their games to run. Most of their newer games (Sims 3 & 4) run on this platform. Sims 2 does also, but it is no longer available for purchase in their catalogue.
And yes, the game is still able to be played and run on Windows 10. Did you need help installing the game?
Yes, I did indeed need help installing, thanks. I have all of the saved files, just not the game & extensions itself.
@GregEccleston11 , try these intructions and let me know if they work.
Insert your Sims 2 CD/DVD into your disk drive. Open up your local hard drive.
1) Go to File, New, Folder. Name this folder "Disk Images."
2) Go into the "Disk Images" folder and create another folder called "Disk1." If you're installing a version of The Sims 2 or an expansion with multiple disks, create folders for each disk. Label them "Disk2," "Disk3" and "Disk4." It's important you don't put a space in between "Disk" and the number you use. You will have to do this for each expansion and stuff pack. But for now just install the Base Game.
3) Open up "My Computer" and select your Sims 2 CD. If the autorun comes up, cancel it as well as the installation. Right-click The Sims 2 CD. Click "Explore."
4) Click on the "Edit" tab at the top of the window and choose "Select All." You can also press CTRL+A. Click on the "Edit" tab again and select "Copy." CTRL+C also works.
5) Head into your "Disk1" folder. Go to the "Edit" tab and select "Paste." CTRL+V works as well. Continue until you've copied and pasted the information from all the disks into their appropriate folders.
6) Find the autorun file in the "Disk1" folder and double click it. This should install the game as normal. When you are finished, you can delete the "Disk Images" folder.
Tips
If you encounter any file transfer errors when copying and pasting, try cleaning your disk. If that fails, your disk is either scratched or corrupted. If you need to find another copy of the game, try Amazon, E-Bay, your local game store that sells used games or Goodwill/Salvation Army.
Hello & thanks for the help so far;
Followed all the instructions & copied all the four original disks into the named folders. Then started the install of the game.
Run autorun.exe from the folder titled Disk1. When that finished, I was prompted "Please insert disk number 2" & could progress no further.
@GregEccleston11 , check the contents of Disk2 to see if there is a similar file.
Disk2 has "autorun.inf" and "RunGame.exe" but no "autorun.exe".
I need help installing if you could guide me through please
