    Nevermind, I have it fixed now.  I finally found the magic words to put into my search engine that would actually bring up a solution.  It seems that The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection has everything except The Sims 2 Store Edition.  That might not seem like much since it's obsolete right now, but it actually is a big deal.  The Store Edition acted like an expansion pack; it's actually labelled at "EP99" which means it was always the most "recent" EP according to the game, thus it overrides all other expansion packs.  That means that if you had it, your saved content was tied into it and without it, then your content wouldn't appear.

    Hopefully EA realizes the mistake they made and fixes it.  But until then, this website tells you how to fix it manually:
