"Please insert disc 2" For downloading the sims 2 base game.

I am trying to download the sims 2 base game from a second hand shop, but it constantly asks me to insert disc two after it reaches 23%. Was my first mistake getting it second hand? And are there any work arounds? Im desperate to play.
