Re: Sims 2 Crashing at Startup + BodyShop

@ChrisinLiberty Try disabling Origin In Game for The Sims 2. It has been the cause of crashing for some players.

Right-click on The Sims 2 in your Origin game library and go to Game Properties. Untick the box next to Enable Origin In Game for The Sims™ 2 Ultimate Collection and save the changes. Launch the game and see if the game still crashes.

I did that, and the game crashes before it loads completely. On the splash it crashes before the loading bar is full.

@ChrisinLiberty , when using Graphics Rule Maker, did you check to see what your graphics card is? Just checking to see what you've done in regards to some of these normal fixes.

Also, do you have CC and mods in your game?

I have, and I went through another tutorial, so the game runs smoothly on the neighborhood view.

However, my game is starting to crash when I try to click the audio settings, and when I try to load a family, the same issue occurs. Repairing the game didn't work, either.

@ChrisinLiberty Remove any fixes you may have done in your installation folder and repair your game thorugh Origin.

1.) Once your game is repaired, run Graphics Rules Maker as Administrator (hopefully you have version 2.0.0 downloaded directly from SimsNetwork), and enable the following settings:

    - Force texture memory: 4096 MB (RTX 3070 has 8GB, so 4GB seems reasonable for TS2)

    - Disable texture memory estimate adjustment

    - Enable driver's memory manager

    - For default and maximum resolution, select your screen resolution.

Save the changes, when it asks you to add your card to the game's database, click Yes.

2.) In Start Menu, type in Graphics Settings (you can also right click on your desktop, open Display Settings, and scroll until you find Graphics Settings) and open that.

In the window that opens, look for Choose an app to set preference. Click on that and select Desktop app from the drop-down menu. Click Browse, navigate to your Sims 2 installation folder, find Sims2EP9.exe, and add it to the list. Once it's added, click on The Sims 2 EP9, click Options, and select High performance. Save the changes.

3.) To apply 4GB Patch (assuming it's the one from NTCore), first back up your Sims2EP9.exe in case you ever need to restore it, then move it to your desktop to apply the patch there. Once it's done, move the patched executable back to TSBin folder.

4.) Once again, make sure that Origin In Game is disabled for The Sims 2.

As for BodyShop, you can apply the same settings in Graphics Rules Maker as for The Sims 2 (just select it in GRM's dropdown list), and patch TS2BodyShop.exe with the 4GB Patch.

It didn't work for me either ☹️

It's getting really strange on the fact that the game is crashing even with any issue being thought out for it to work...

@ChrisinLiberty Have you tried taking out your current Sims 2 folder out of Documents\EA Games\ so the game could generate a completely new, vanilla folder? Perhaps there is something in the current folder that might be acting up.

If that doesn't fix anything, check that your Windows and drivers are up to date, and scan for corrupt system files (open Command Prompt as Admin, type in sfc /scannow, press Enter and wait for it to finish). If everything else fails, I can also post instructions for installing a dxvk fix.

That helped out! It was also very convenient for me to take out any conflicting mods that made these crashes. Thank you!

@ChrisinLiberty You're welcome! I'm glad that it works now. When downloading mods, always make sure to check creators' notes about possible issues and conflicts.
