@JaeeMarieee , follow the directions in the second post on the first page of this thread. And yes, you would do this for Mansion and Garden since that is the most recent Expansion/Stuff pack you have.
I am experiencing the same problem. I don't have "ultimate collection" but The Sims 2 Pets and etc. I deleted the TM on all of them and there is no change. I am stuck, since this is a brand new PC and there is virtually nothing on it
@MsBikasa , have you found and installed the 4GB patch? If not, Google search for it and download it and install it.
Yes I have. I followed this tutorial
https://pleasantsims.com/sims-2-windows-10/
And in the config log it says 4096 MB
Says it doesn’t recognize my graphics card but I don’t know if that’s related to “running low on disk space”
I am so hopeless right now, it seems nothing works for me but the game works fine on all of my friends’ computers
@MsBikasa , so you've tried everything in that post? Just checking so we know we may need to start next. Oh, one question. Are you playing from the disk version or the Sims 2 UC?
Same here. I just downloaded the Sims 2 Ultimate Collection from Origin. There is over 400GB free disk space. It's a fresh installation of the SIms 2, I only downloaded some mods. I tried the solution with the trademark sign, but there's no improvement. I keep getting the "running low on disk space" message. I have Windows 10 version 20H2.
The game is playable, but there are serious problems. First, it seems to take too much time to open and load. I can load neighborhoods, play normally and save my game, but if I change the resolution and other game settings, they dont stay the next time I open the game, so i have to change them again every time. Furthermore, custom content enablement isn't saved. I mean, when you open the game, it asks you as always if you want to enable custom content and states that you need to restart the game in order for custom content to function. That's ok until now. If I enable it and restart the game, when the game loads again the mods are shown disabled and I have to select again to enable them, but that isn't ok because I need another restart, but mods enablement can't be saved, resulting in that I can't have mods.
So it seems that the game can't save some settings and preferences.
I've searched all kinds of solutions i could find to it. I found out that most people solved it by removing the "TM" symbol from that registry entry. For me it doesn't work. So what could I do?

@miltos00 Since you've mentioned that your game options reset, please check that your Sims 2 user data is NOT syncing to OneDrive and that the antivirus is not messing with the game.
OneDrive is enabled on Windows 10 by default, and it will sync the entire Documents folder, including The Sims 2. It has a 5GB free storage limit, and it's not recommended to let it near The Sims 2 as the user data can be very sensitive, and the game might run into issues if something goes wrong with OneDrive.
Thanks for the reply.
I have OneDrive completely turned off, I don't use it and I turned it of when I installed WIndows. Also, the antivirus doesn't seem to have messed with the game. Wouldn't I notice something lke a notification if it had?
- @miltos00 I managed to solve to the problem but it was the most weird solution ever. A friend of mine who is a programmer saw that my bios was 7 years out of date and the installation of windows was bugged, so he updates my bios and reinstalled my windows 10. After that, a fresh install of the game and it works like magic!!
- @MsBikasa Really weird! It makes sense for my computer, though. I have my computer for something like 6 or 7 years, obviously without having updated the BIOS. I have played the Sims 2 many times on it on previous installations of Windows (of previous versions). So it was the first time to download and play the game on version 20H2, which may be bugged.
Thanks for the quick reply on this relatively old post, you're top! I'm kind of lazy right now to do a fresh installation, but I'll do it probably the next week. Hope it works, I really wanted to play the game again! - @MsBikasa So, I have some news about that.
First, my computer had the lastly updated version of bios, which was released in 2014, so I couldn't apply that method.
I tried to install the game on a laptop, a new one, I have it for one year (that meaning it won't have an outdaded bios). But the problem persists. I get the same message.
That seems too weird, as I watch people on Youtube who can play the game (I believe on modern systems). @miltos00have you tried emptying your Recycle bin? Just checking to see if it will free up memory on your computer
- @Tremayne4260 Tried it, didn't work. I didn't expect that to work actually, I have hundreds of gigabytes of free space.
Have you also tried the 4GB patch? Just kind of thinking of things that might help.
- @Tremayne4260 I hadn't tried it, I wanted to keep the game clean to make sure nothing conflicts and causes the error. I tried it now though, but there's no improvement.

@miltos00 Sorry if this might get repetitive, but I would double-check OneDrive and antivirus. I personally find Windows 10 somewhat unpredictable, so you can never be too safe. And not being able to save settings could be a symptom of one of those. You might also want to check that your Sims 2 user folder is not set as Read-only.
Also, after removing the trademark, did you get a new Sims 2 user folder that reflected the update (no trademark symbol in the name)? You might want to move the entire EA Games folder from Documents to your desktop, and let the game generate a completely fresh one.I'm also curious if you have multiple hard drives. The game can be installed anywhere, but the user folder will always be in the main Documents folder. As for the 4GB Patch, it should not conflict with anything, since it only lets the game use up to 4GB RAM if necessary.
Hello , I know this problem is two years old but I do not know what to do. I have a brand new PC 1T 16 Ram Windows 11 and the only thing in there is the Sims. So how on earth
it says low disk space?
@margeker , have you tried any of the suggestions in this thread? Have you cleared your Recycle Bin?
My recycle bin is empty. I told you is a new PC
Hey margeker, miltos00 from the future here. Turns out I tried to install the game on a brand new laptop two months ago. And guess what, I had the problem AGAIN. I thought this can't be a problem of all of the three computers I tried it on. I made a new post on Answers HQ in November and what mate54 recommended me really solved the problem. So, thanks for leaving a comment on this thread and reminding me to share how I solved the problem.
I hope I didn't get you bored with the story of it 🙂, I thought it would be interesting. SO, that is the solution that worked for me, I am pretty sure this will be the case with you.
Here's your solution: https://answers.ea.com/t5/Other-The-Sims-Games/The-sims-2-low-on-disk-space/m-p/12078787#M20677
Anyway friends , I have seen .the solutions but the problem still exists. I have all the space I need because it is a new PC ( 1T 16 Ram) and I do not have One Drive .but the message of low disk is still there. Moreover, I have Sims two in a laptop (Windows 10 ) which is not so good as this PC and the Ultimate Collection runs perfectly.
- @margeker Hello, sorry for insisting, but I want to make sure about it. As far as I know, OneDrive runs on windows 10 and 11 by default, so a brand new PC will have it enabled. When you say you don't have OneDrive, do you mean that you haven't ever used and changed settings regarding OneDrive, or do you mean that you have deactivated it intentionally?
Yes, One Drive was in my PC but I changed settings and disabled it
My PC is one month. old. When I started to play Sims , there was a message that the game is saved in one drive and I had many problems. I lost all my progress in Sims 3. So I disabled it and I started Sims 3 from the beginning and now it runs ok and saved in my pc where is plenty of space. And I save the game in an other file too every week so if anything goes wrang I will not loose all my progress. But the low disk space is always there in Sims 2 UK.
So my collection in EA has Sims 2, 3 and 4. Only 2 has the problem and to be honest I do not play 4 much because I do not like it very much. Sims 4 is of better quality game with better graphics etc but I prefer 3.
