I bought my copy as a digital download from Amazon. It does not run though Origin which has been having problems lately due to the upgrade of the Mac OS to El Capitan.
After updating my Mac OS to El Capitan, Sims Medieval kept crashing so I thought I would uninstall and reinstall the game. Huge mistake. Cannot get past the activate content message, and no the setting the clock back to 2011 doesn't work. I've tried installing it with the CD patch and the download patch (originally bought with the CD but lost it long ago and have only used the download on Origin ever since) and neither work. Have been (trying) to update to 2.0.114. I do not have the Pirates expansion. Does anyone have any insight into fixing this? I swear I have searched every corner of the internet trying to solve this and can't find anything.
You probably will need to move the Sims Medieval folder (Documents > Electronic Arts > Sims Medieval) to your desktop and restart the game to allow it to generate a new folder. Don't worry, your saves will be safe. This has to be done with Sims 3 & 4 as well. Once the game restarts, you can add your saves back in.
I had a similar problem. After buying the Sims Medieval and the Pirates&Nobles game on Origin for my Mac, I couldn't start the game because the opening menu said
something about launch failure, a problem many people talked about on this forum as well. After downloading the patch that problem was solved though.
But then as I tried to start the game again I came across the problem with not being able to activate the game or content.
I tried setting the year to 2011, but that didn't work either. Then I tried starting it again after moving the folder, but that didn't work either.
Any ideas how I can still get this game working? ☹️
What kind of Mac are you running the game on and what version of the OS are you running?
I've got a MacBook Air, OS X, Version 10.9.5
Very strange. And you've contacted EA customer support to supply you with a new code?

Has anyone had any luck or news since? Have just purchased a new Macbook and decided to reinstall, still getting the activation error... ☹️
I did get a new code from EA customer service, but that didn't work either.
Customer support was kind of lost on what to do, so they
adviced me to try again when one of the specialists was available.
Once I've gotten a hold of one of them I'll post any useful info here.
Facing another simsless evening... ☹️
I'm wondering if this isn't the same problem that many people have with the new Macs in the graphics card may not be recognized. I do have Sims Medieval, but I have never registered it with Origin or did I purchase it though Origin. I bought it directly from Amazon.

Likewise, I purchased mine from GameTree Mac back in 2011 when it was released. Really wanted to play it as a form of stress relief and also show a friend how awesome the game is. Sucks that this had to happen ☹️ hope it gets sorted soon, seems like an issue that's been happening for months.

Oh and also as a side note, I am running the latest OS X, El Capitan - 10.11.1
I just started up my game and it didn't ask me to connect Origin at all. I play directly from the game itself like Sims 3. Try going into Applications and scroll down until you find the The Sims Medieval folder and then open it up. You should see a green plumbob that is plain with no arrow left of it called Sims Medieval. Try starting the game directly from there and not through Origin at all.
I also updated to El Capitan.

Sorry I meant to clarify by saying that it is installed independently, not through Origin what so ever. I have changed the infoplist file so that it opens the game directly instead of the launcher as I had "unknown error" pop ups whenever I opened the launcher. My main issue is not being able to start the game due to activation error (?), although I know the serial code I have is valid etc...
EDIT: I've also had Origin uninstalled since I don't use it and am still getting the same prompts.. - ApprovedAnonymous10 years ago
These are the windows that appear upon opening the game, the prompt to enter the serial number and after entering the serial number,

I am having the same problem. Very frustrating as I love The Sims and how have I only just discovered Medieval!! My favourite era. Anyway, I tried changing the date, downloaded a patch so I can actually see the game menu properly, but now I'm stuck on activation.
I don't even know if I'm entering the right code! I purchased on Origin download for Mac the deluxe pack which includes the Pirates & Nobles extension, and I have a code for both the original Medieval game and the P&N extensions, but those weren't accepted. I also have a code for the special content but a) it says not to use that and b) that doesn't work anyway...I'm at a loss!!
If I'm just entering the wrong code, can someone help me locate where it might be?
Otherwise....I'm frustrated and pretty stuck, this sounded like fun!
I had the same problem with SimCity 2013. Unfortunately, it is a problem with EA and will have to be dealt with through their customer service. 😢

So far all they've done for me is have me try going back in time to 2011 (no dice), trying different codes (no dice), activating a code from the client then seeing if I could get past the activation prompt (no dice), and checking firewall/security settings. Still can't run the game.
Also on El Capitan.
- ApprovedAnonymous10 years agoAs I would have thought - but I've read so many people contacting EA and they're clueless as to what to do. I also went down the Origin route yesterday, purchased, downloaded and attempted to activate with the same problem... Y U DO DIS MAC Y?! /frustration
I also read from an EA rep not too long ago that they are in the process of sorting this out. But let's be honest... We'll be waiting months because they release a patch/fix for this issue
At the moment I'm not too fussed seeing as I have end of year exams at uni so probably shouldn't be playing but hey, I love me some procrastination. - ApprovedAnonymous10 years agoInteresting read! However many of the previous posters have purchased the game through Origin (which I did at one point - got my refund immediately after I realised it still wouldn't work), and still came up with the same issue...
I will however give this a go ASAP and report back soon :3 - ApprovedAnonymous10 years ago
Didn't work.
>☹️ It is an issue with EA. I bought Sim City 2013 when it became available on the App Store.
Waited a week to hear back from support, and then they just suggested all of the basic troubleshooting steps I'd already tried with them. They're just spinning their wheels on this issue.
At this point in time, there is nothing further I can suggest to try. 😢
