The Sims 1 Crashes on Launch

I've just finished installing The Sims Legacy Edition and as you can imagine I was excited to fire up the game and dive into the nostalgia. The game won't even open. The Sims icon flashes up along t...

Final edit:  This thread has now been locked.  If you have installed the February 4 patch for Sims 1 and the game still crashes on launch, please post in this new thread instead:

Sims 1 crash on launch, post Feb 4 update | EA Forums - 11865576

    Disregard everything else below.

Accepting this as the solution for visibility purposes.  This is an open issue.  Please provide the information requested below.

Even further edit, 1:20 am Pacific:

Please try uninstalling the 2015 and newer VC++ runtimes, and reinstalling the 2022 x86 and x64 versions (yes both).  Credit goes to ErmacsForceKin , who posted instructions here.

I would strongly suggest uninstalling only the runtimes dated 2015 and newer, as the older ones are not redundant, and you may have other apps installed that require them.

    Further edit 1:10 pm Pacific:

For anyone who still can't play, please open C:\Windows\system32 and launch vulkaninfo.exe (don't worry if you don't see the .exe, it's the same).  When it's done, click anywhere in the window and click ctrl-A.  Open Notepad and ctrl-V to paste.  Save your file as vulkaninfo [your username].

Send a private message to EA_Solaire and attach the file using the Attachment (paper clip) icon.  Put "Sims 1 won't launch" as the subject.  If you can't attach the file, upload it to a third-party filesharing site (e.g. Google Drive, and make sure anyone with the link can see it) and put the link in the PM.

Everyone in this thread, please provide some information about the issue:

    • Is this for Sims 1, or 2, or both?  Please test the other if you haven't and you bought it.
    • Edited to add:  Did you ever have the affected game installed on this computer?
    • What country are you in?
    • Did you buy from and are you playing through the EA App, Steam, or Epic?
    • If you bought from EA, what is the status of the transaction?  Go to ea.com, sign in, open Account Settings > Order History, and list the status you see: Completed, Processing, or Failed.
    • If you get an error message, what does it say?  Please post a screenshot.
    • Is your Documents directory in OneDrive?  If you're not sure, right-click the Documents icon in the left panel of a File Explorer window, the one with the special icon (not a plain folder), and select Properties > General.  The Location is the full path, and it may or may not include OneDrive.
    • If you have a laptop with dual graphics, does it help to force the game to use the iGPU?  Here's how to do it for Nvidia cards (further up the thread).

Edit to add:  Please create an EA App error report and provide the report ID here.

    https://help.ea.com/en/help/ea/ea-app/run-ea-error-report/

Please also provide a dxdiag.  Click Windows key-R, enter dxdiag in the run box, wait for the scan to finish, click "Save all information," and save the file to your desktop.  From there, you can attach it to a reply using the paper clip (Attachment) icon included with the other formatting buttons.
