Sims 2 Crashing Since Most Recent Origin Update

I've never had a problem with playing the Sims 2 on this laptop before. It was fine right up until I installed the origin update today. When I got back on to play I can only do so for a couple minutes before the whole thing crashes or just terminates itself. I want to talk to someone who can actually solve the problem and it's ridiculous that there doesn't seem to be a way to do that, only this where I can air my complaint and wait for someone to happen upon it.
