Sims 2 does not start at all - Please read first post carefully before posting

Has anyone tried the old trick of deleting the accessory and groups cache from the Sims 2 folder?

That was suggested as a possible fix on the forum at  Mod the Sims.  I tried it, and the game opens fine for me now.
