Sims 2: Open For Business

I finally managed to get the sims 2 base and the first of my expansion packs (university) installed. I just installed Open for Business (a note, I have to use the method of force closing the installer when it asks to update or else it crashes. I think that’s Windows 10’s fault. So I don’t know if a lack of patches may be causing it) but now when I open it it spins up the disc and then says “please insert the disc” even though is already in. Before anyone says this, no the disc is spotless and has no scratches at all. My pc is reading the disc and the other expansion packs and base game work fine so it’s just Open for Business. Please help. Also any tips for getting patches to work as they never install properly on windows 10. Also the update thing after installing the expansions also doesn’t work on windows xp so... I don’t know what’s wrong.

    Thanks for the update, @TrainsofBritain.

During the era of The Sims 2, before internet-hosted patching for games, there was a strict installation order where the latest expansion would have the latest patch for The Sims 2 for that install. So if you have The Sims 2: Open for Business installed, you would have to uninstall it before installing The Sims 2: University as University launched first.

However, if you only have The Sims 2 and The Sims 2: Open for Business installed, and you are only trying to run those, then let's see if we can track down why it's not loading up.

Do you have the The Sims 2: Open for Business disc 1 in the drive? Also, are you running the game as Administrator and in Vista (Service Pack 2) compatibility mode?

    Hey there, @XxLuckyNachoxX.

The individual expansions do have to be installed from disc in order that they released, as the game released before digital downloads were available for it.

However, if you have the digital The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection on Origin, then it should download and install everything without needing to worry about order.

    I hope that helps!

@XxLuckyNachoxX , you may have to do a clean install of the entire game especially if you own other expansions and stuff packs. If you want to save your current saved games you need to go to Documents > EA Games > The Sims 2. Move the entire Sims 2 folder to your Desktop, do not copy, do not create a shortcut. The folder needs to be moved. Next uninstall your game and make sure that all the files related to Sims 2 are also gone (except for the folder on you Desktop).

Install the Base Game and then install the rest of your Expansion packs and Stuff Packs in the following order:

    The Sims 2 (Base Game)
    University
    Nightlife
Christmas Party Pack (also called Holiday Stuff Pack)
    Open for Business
    Family Fun Stuff
    Glamour Life Stuff
    Pets
Festive Holiday Stuff (also called Happy Holiday Stuff)
    Seasons
    Celebrations Stuff
    H&M Fashion Stuff
    Bon Voyage
    Teen Style Stuff
    Freetime
    Kitchen and Bath Stuff
    IKEA Stuff
    Apartment Life
    Mansion & Gardens Stuff

Also, your disk drive may be having problems reading the University disk. You may need to either clean the disk itself or get a CD/DVD laser cleaner to clean the laser reader itself.

Just trying to offer a few solutions without more information.

I am having trouble installing this expansion pack.

The open for business installs fine but then asks me to insert sims 2 disc to see if there is any updates and it then uninstalls the game.

I do not have any other expansion packs installed i just have the sims 2.

Can someone help on how to fix this?

    Kayleigh

  • @hu770n , do you have any other expansion packs for the game or stuff packs?

So you can install Sims 2 Base Game fine and play it? Just checking because it could be you need to apply the fixes to the Base Game before trying to install OFB. Also what version of Windows are you playing on?

    Hey,

nope, no other extension packs. I have no other games at all on my computer.

yes I have been playing the sims 2 fine for a few months and just bought the extension pack a few days ago.

the install works fine, it gets to 100% and I have the correct code as the manual is in the disc so it is not a copied one from online. Once the install is finished it asks me to put my original sims 2 disc back in to see if there are any updates needed to launch the game. When I put that in it automatically does a little update (there are no options or ways of me stopping it) and then it uninstalls the OFB pack again without any buttons enabling me to stop it, the box shows 100% installed and then gradually goes down to 0% and wipes the game from my device.

I have not tampered with any settings in either game so if there is anything I need to do in the background I have not done that.

    i have a HP computer and it’s only 2 years old so I’m sure it’s windows 10.

  • @hu770n , if I remember correctly there is something extra you have to do to install Sims 2 to the current version of Windows 10. I'll need to research it.

Hello! How could you finally install all the expansions on your laptop? I have the same problem with the sims 2 open for bussines.

    thanks!

@jelenbain , you need to do a Google search for "How to install Sims 2 and expansions on Windows 10" and the answers should direct you to a Microsoft website which will give you instructions on how to download and install the game.
