And before anyone brings it up, YES, I already tried editing the graphics rules file. It didn't work.

@BunniesAreCute ,while you do need to edit the Graphics Rule.sgr to recognize your graphics card, there are additional lines that need to be edited by hand to be able to have the game recognize the various resolutions.
SimsVIP (which I am not sure if I can link to due to forum rules) has easy to follow step by step instructions on how to edit the Graphics Rule file to increase the resolution. A Google search for "Sims 2 resolution" should show you the link to SimsVIP and you can follow the instructions from there.
