- mate545 years agoHero+@BunniesAreCute When you edited GraphicsRules.sgr yourself, did it maybe save as .txt file? Usually Notepad can't save files when you modify them in installation folders.
@BunniesAreCute , even if you run Graphics Rule Maker to add your graphics card information, there are still lines of code that Graphics Rule Maker does not edit that must be edited to increase your resolution. Because of forum rules, I cannot link directly to the site that give you step by step instructions exactly on how to fix the lines of code that must be edited in order to fix your resolution. If you do a Google search on "Sims 2 Resolution" you will find not only the site I mentioned, but several YouTube videos on how to do the exact same thing.
@mate54 , just as an FYI, the only thing Graphics Rule Maker does is edit the Graphics Rule.sgr to add the video card. You have to manually edit the lines of code that will then increase resolution. 🙂

@Tremayne4260GRM is actually able to add higher resolutions, there is a setting for default and maximum resolution which you can change. There are some other options as well, to disable shadows (due to the black box issue), to enable high quality on Intel Graphics as well as settings that take care of the purple soup issue. I never had to edit my files manually, GRM did everything for me. Not sure why it doesn't work for OP, though.
@BunniesAreCute Do you have any of these games installed: The Sims Life Stories, The Sims Pet Stories, The Sims Castaway Stories, or SimCity 4? GRM also supports those, so it might have edited their files, instead of editing the ones for TS2.
- @mate54 No, it didn't. I would have noticed if it did as I'm not an idiot.
- @Tremayne4260 You really think I'm so STUPID that I didn't Google it already?!
- @mate54 No, I don't have those games installed. And I saw the settings and made sure it was pointed at Sims 2.
@BunniesAreCute , there is no need to be rude here. I am only trying to help you and you have said nothing about having researched this issue. I am simply pointing out ways to help you.
@mate54 , then someone must have updated Graphics Rule Maker since I last used it. It only supported Sims 2 and I think Sim City 4. 🙂

- @Tremayne4260 It's just that using Google is *incredibly* obvious. I didn't mean to be rude, I just hate feeling patronized.
- mate545 years agoHero+@BunniesAreCute When it comes to 3rd party programs/fixes, they cannot be linked here. And, obviously, when someone tries to help with an issue that everyone has and requires another program, they suggest the most common solutions, like "Google the resolution fix, look for GRM, Run GRM as Admin, Make sure that it's set to the latest pack, check the GraphicsRules file extension, etc." Unfortunately, I don't know what else could be causing your issue, and since I can't reproduce it, it's harder to troubleshoot.
