Sims 2 Ultimate collection: Black rectangle shadows

I have googled this problem a ton and at first turning shadows to off fixed it, but either because i have windows 10 or because i changed resolution in graphic rules file, turning the shadows off doesn't fix it. I also went into graphic rules again and checked that simShadows was set to false. Does anyone know of anything else to try?

Any help is appreciated.

Solution 1 - lower or turn off your in-game shadow settings. Some people report that setting shadows to Medium is fine, some have to turn them off altogether so your mileage may vary. You can do this once you have loaded a household.

Solution 2 - there is a mod by MTS user Nopke that also takes care of this issue. Not sure if I can link to mods in here but I'm sure you can find it based on the information given.

  • I'm pretty sure this has been fixed in an update. If it hasn't

    1) Turn shadows down to Med/Low/Off

    2) Lower your graphics

Hope either of these work! (If it hasn't been resolved already)
