Hello Sims Team!, thanks for letting us voice our opinions. After playing with the Sims games for around a decade now, one thing that I really enjoy is the family aspects and the close friendships sims can bond. That's where I would want more depth in and for these sorts of relationships to have more of an effect on our gameplay and present more challenges that could drive and change our sims decisions within our gameplay.
I want families to be able to remember each other and have more memories and sentiments instead of just having the label sister or niece or grandparent as it really doesn’t add anything to the gameplay other than being related. I think it would be nice to see sisters and brothers in laws or second cousins and even offering to add close friends as uncles and aunts to the kids or even godparents. This would mean that sims aren’t just sims and considered family and there is something special to them and their relationships.
It would be nice to see sims develop relationships and go through certain experiences with families like a holiday or fight but it has a significant effect on the family. It would be nice to see these relationships have an actual effect and not just be sims that randomly turn up at your house because they are coincidentally your sibling, maybe changing the chance of them turning up depending on how good their relationship is. For example, I really like the text message where the parents call their child when they miss them, it adds character and reminds the player of the family and their sims relationships outside of their current household. Something else that could show depth within the family system is like when a sim marries into a family they remain unknown to most of the family even though they become relatives, it would be nice to see sims get parents approval to marry or even have annoying inlaws. These could just be seen as sentiments though as they still have a long-lasting effect which I do enjoy about the game!
Overall, it would be nice to see sims remember they have family and have some sort of relationship with them and not just be a label that does not affect gameplay.
