I realise I may be in the minority with this, but I am almost wholly a sandbox player. I don't necessarily mind the game throwing me the odd curveball so long as I ultimately remain in control of my characters and story. One of the reasons I didn't start playing Sims 4 until 2020 was that I had previously tried to play Sim City in the 90s, and I absolutely hated it. I wanted to build my Sim City, even if it made absolutely no sense, but it felt so constraining to have to put the roads in first, and the electricity, and whatever else needed to be done before I actually got to any sort of creative part.
