Sims Medieval time out looking for web site

Sims Medieval times out looking for "http://launcher.thesimsmedieval.com/launcher/home.html?login_layer_display"

Loaded from disc to imac and got the time out problem on launch.  used EA chat line help and they pointed me to Origin....opened game via Origin and got same problem.  Two faiures that i see. 1. times out looking for initial web site.  2.  Sees an upgrade is available, allows me to download but download ends with no update and time out screen comes up.  This happens trying to start game direct from disk and starting from Origin.

My Mac is imac 3.2 Ghz Intel Core i3, ATI Radeon HD 5670 OS X10.9.1
