@JemysMum Yes, when packs are installing, they try to install the patch for base game, but it crashes and cancels the installation. That is a common problem on modern PCs, but there are workarounds.
You will need to download the official Sims 2 patches, either from SimsVIP or Mod the Sims, for every pack that you own, including the base game.
You will also need a tool called GrumpyLoader, available on Mod the Sims. Although I am not sure if I can link it here, it is found on Mod the Sims thread called A Word of Warning About Windows 8, post 193. GrumpyLoader lets you install base game, University and Nightlife patches without them crashing and corrupting the installation. Later packs should not have this issue.
I recommend you install the games in release order, that should be the easiest way to patch everything. For packs that you own, your installation order should be:
- The Sims 2 (+ patch)
- The Sims 2 University (+ patch)
- The Sims 2 Nightlife (+ patch)
- The Sims 2 Open for Business (+ patch)
- The Sims 2 Pets (+ disk patch) (if you decide to skip it, that's fine, you can always install it afterwards)
- The Sims 2 Seasons (+ disk patch)
- The Sims 2 Bon Voyage (+ patch)
After you install the base game, install the patch for it using GrumpyLoader. To do this, open GrumpyLoader, click Load and select the base game patch. If it throws any errors, tell it to ignore them. After it finishes, run the patch without GrumpyLoader, by double-clicking on it, and confirm that it says that The Sims 2 is already up to date.
Once the base game is installed and patched, install University and repeat the patch procedure with the University patch too. Then move to Nightlife, and so on, until you're done. I believe you will not need GrumpyLoader for Open for Business and later packs.
The reason you're patching manually is to avoid the patch running after the next pack is installed, and potentially crashing the installation. Since, this way, the patches will already be installed, the next pack you install should not try to patch the game again.
Let me know how it goes, and if you need any help setting up the game to be compatible with modern PCs and run in higher resolutions.
