The Sims 2: Failed to enumerate any DirectX 9 compatible graphics adapters.. etc

I've carried this game through multiple versions of windows and am now trying to make it work on my new windows 11 laptop. It has GeForce rtx 3050. I have directx 9 installed. I'm familliar with editing the graphics rules manually and all previous times it has worked with trial an error. Now, this time, I can't figure out how to stop getting this error. I remember getting it before. But I don't remember how I solved it.

In the past I never bothered with the graphics rules maker as I could sort it by myself. But I thought i'd give it a go now. Whenever I click "save files" I get a dialog box which tells me "Could not create back-up files. Aborting"

I love this game and refuse to let it go. Please help me out.

In all honesty I don't think I've ever used those. After some searching and more trial and error I finally managed to get the game to acknowledge my graphics card.

I had to manually add it into the "video cards" file in config and csconfig. I did this for the Mansion and garden stuff program files. After that, the game would load.

@Tremayne4260 I have no idea what I changed but it now won't start anymore and i get the directx error message again.

  • @SianAF148 , you always need to edit the Graphics Rule.sgr file in the latest game. I actually did it in all the files for all games and stuff packs so the game could recognize everywhere.

@Tremayne4260 yeah that's always one of the first things I do. For whatever reason, Windows always blocks mansion and garden stuff from running so I have to create the task with admin privileges through task manager. Usually I would use SimsSP9.exe (M&G Stuff) but after it stopped working, I used the launcher file instead. That works now. But I don't know why using simsp9 no longer works. Sims 2 has always been a pain to install but this time really is worse.
