the sims 2 product key

i have recently purchased a second hand The Sims 2 game and i tried to install it but the install wizard said that the code has already been used and is invalid. does anyone know of a solution as i have wanted this game for a while.

    well the game being second-hand wont help....

    The key was used by the last owner
