[FIX]
After launching The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection from Origin and going through the introductory song and video, the sims stopped responding on the loading screen. I had to Ctrl + Alt + Del to the task manager to see that the sims had stopped responding and I ended the process.
The Sims 2 crashes because it is uncompatible with Windows 8. Unless you want to install a completely different OS, I suggest you follow the following steps: [Source]
- Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search. (If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
- Enter run programs in the search box.
- Tap or click Run programs made for precious version of Windows, and then tap or click Next.
- Select the program you want to fix.

If you don't see the program in the list, select Not Listed.

[In my case I had to search the sims 2 in the same search box you get when doing step 1, and click the program. My problem was fixed here.] - Tap or click Next, and then follow the instructions in the troubleshooter.
