I had that problem too at first, it would open but freeze on the loading screen. I'm running it on compatability mode (XP service pack 3) now and it works fine. Well, apart from the fact that the screen blinks a bit when I move the camera and the water's all blocky, but that's a graphics issue.

- Find the Sims 2 UC Icon on your desktop
- Right click on it and choose properties
- Choose the tab compatility
- Click on the little tick in compatibilty mode and choose Windows XP (SP3) from the dropdown box.

I can't remember of the top pf my head, but I think you right click the icon, click Properties, click Compatibility, then choose XP SP3. I think it asks you to test it first, then you can save the settings so it opens in Compatibility Mode every time.
