First thing I would try is repairing the game through Origin. Just right click on the game and select the Repair option, Origin will do all the hard work 😉
If that doesn't work, have you already tried to give compatibility mode a try?:
Click on the Compatibility tab.
You can check the box under Compatibility mode and choose your preferred version of Windows from the pull-down menu. Select to run the game in compatibility mode with Windows XP Service Pack 3.
I would also recommend checking the box beside “Run this program as an administrator.”
Click Apply to save your changes and then try launching your game again.
As Windows, and the hardware it runs on, has changed over time since the original launch of many of our games, unfortunately older games won't always run properly for you in compatibility mode under Windows 10, but it's worth trying!

Random thought because why not: one of my favourite objects in The Sims 2 is the Thinking Cap, I wish that existed in real life! :D
i am old and definitely electronically challenged! My eight year old granddaughter knows more than me about electronics! I just got back online after a 6 year absence from it! I still have windows 7 on my computer that I purchased in 2010 from Walmart just before i retired! I'm sure i have old drivers that need to be upgraded or what ever you do to them! the launcher started acting up after i tried to download becks animated farm horse, as mine was not working right! Now it will not launch at all and has all kinds of writing about sims on it as well! Help me please I want to play my sims!
@gramsharri , welcome back. 🙂 Yes, you should update Windows 7, but do not update to Windows 10. So what exactly is the game doing? Is it launching? Or was it starting before you added the Farm Horse? Just trying to figure out what's going on so I can give you the right instructions.
@AbC5595a3631899 , you'd have to find out what make and model your Graphics card is and check the manufacturer's website for updated drivers. Once you download it, you'd need to follow the instructions from the site on how to install them.
hello, I did all that and it didn't change anything but I notice there is a trojan in the Sims2ep9.exe
my pc foud it, I have a picture but it is in french but I think you can understand so here's the picture and you guys should check that Sims2ep9.exe, it is faulty and had a trojan, the pic says it all and even the name of the trojan!
I'm having issues where the game isn't even booting up. I click "Play" and nothing even pops up. I've tried what yhou've suggested and nothing has fixed it. I've "repaired" it through Origin, as well as uninstalled, then reinstalled and nothing seems to be working.
Hello, I have just come across this issue today and did all that you suggested but I still get the message that the games has crashed. I havent changed anything in my computer settings etc and had not played a little while so unsure as to why this is not working now. I even tried to repair game and update it with no luck.
@BubsBunny92 , this sometimes happens with all games. However, I'd like for you to try the following as some times the game can't find what's its looking for and this is an easy fix.
Locate your Sims 2 folder (found Documents > EA Games > Sims 2). If you play Sims 3 and/or 4, there will be another folder called "Electronic Arts". Please ignore this folder. Move your Sims 2 folder to your Desktop. Do not copy and paste this folder or create a shortcut. Actually move the folder to the Desktop. This will reset the game to a vanilla state with no saved games, CC or mods present. Those will be safe on your Desktop for now. Start up the game to allow for a new folder to generate. If the game starts up ok, then play for about an hour or so to insure that no other issues are present at this time. You can save if you wish.
Please let me know if this solves this issue for you and if you need help to transfer your saves, CC and mods back into the game.
Thanks for your help, really appreciate it. However this has not worked. I have no idea what has happened. I even completely uninstalled then re-installed as I originally had this through Origin but still no luck. It just keeps crashing. I've looked up a number of ways to try to fix but no luck as yet.
I had to install using a zip file to disable/enable user acct control, I was finally able to install it, but it won't run. It still gives me the app error, opening thru the compatibility test just makes my screen look very small with icons cramped together and stays that way. I've tried to run it thru every window with and without running as administrator

I tried the compatibility troubleshooter and each time it still will not launch the Sims2. It keeps saying the same thing: it failed to find an Directx 9.0 compatible graphic adapters but I checked 3x, my laptop has the newest version installed. Not sure what else to try! Help please?!
