The sims 2 using windows 7

i am intalling the sims 2 using windows 7 on a laptop. the game installs using the 4 discs and then asks for disc 1 to be inserted again. i do this and i get a message saying that the sims 2 has a known compatibility issue with windows 7 check for solutiojns online. i am directed to a page and told to tap to download the latest software to fix the problem. everytime i do this though i am told that internet explorer cannot display the page. however, there is an option to run program and not check for a solution, i have clicked this once and the game seems to work fine but am worried that this might damage my laptop, could you please tell me if i am fine playing the game, if not, where i can download the software from to fix the problem thanks
