The Sims (2000) Not Working On Windows XP

So I successfully installed The Sims (just the base game) on my Windows XP a few months ago. I recorded it for a while, turned off the computer, couldn't get on since I was busy for 2 weeks and when I finally did, whenever I open the game, I immediately recieve "The Sims.exe has encountered an error and needs to close". I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling since I have no idea where the saves are located. Help?
