The Sims Medieval - Can't marry suitor

So in the beginning of the game I got a genie in a bottle and I asked for a female match so I'd get the male (I am a female in the game and already played it once so I knew the genie would do the opposite) Well I ended up being courted by him and now I need to marry my suitor for the game but I can't!! HELP!!!
