I strongly dislike this decision.
Rene looks like a mobile game, I am not interested in a movie. Creator kits feels like EA/Maxis doubling down on kits although it is nice to see EA/Maxis collaborating with creators. The only thing one can hope for now is that The Sims 4 will receive some good updates but it has been out for over 10 years already. No work going into The Sims 5.
I am tired and I am really disappointed in EA/Maxis.

Sims 4 might be morphing into 5 if it keeps going.
Are we already playing sims 5? Just Kidding!😜

>The year is 2036
>The Sims 4 has announced its 86th Expansion Pack, Get Rhinoplasty
>Bug fixes have a staggered release date: you must buy the latest DLC to get them right away, or must wait three months for the public release
>The 82nd EP, Get to Jury Duty, But it's a Rabbit Hole, has broken the game so bad that it won't even turn on anymore
>But the pack is a fan-favorite because it has a whopping 3 lots across 2 neighborhoods, and they're all enormous, at 20x15.
>The new limited-time event, True Fans' Celebration, gives you new items (all reskins of DLC items) for every piece of DLC you buy within the allotted time frame
>Game Packs and Stuff Packs have gone extinct
>Kits are now just reskins of basegame items
>Kits are released 20 times a quarter and make up 99% of all content updates
>A new pack type is introduced: Grab Packs. Basically mini refreshes sold as different packs
>Get to Witches' Wands is the new Grab Pack: Get 6 new wands (all reskins of RoM wands) and a limited set of magic spells.
>The spells are accessible for witches if you bought Realm of Magic or the Get to Witching - the latter is an EP that brings back witches, because content is more recycled than ever before
>Loading screens now feature ads for packs you don't have
>NPC Sims will appear in game with content you don't own, including clothes, traits and life states. They lose this content if you add them to your household. This is to motivate you into buying content and complete your game
>Pop-up ads interrupt the game every three IRL hours
>Buy 3 tickets to the new Sims movie, and you'll get a code for a poster you can add to your game! Tickets start at $130 per person
>New meshes have not been created in 5 years. Every new item is a reskin of something else
>Despite the last 15 years proving otherwise, Sims fans still hope they will acknowledge the Sim's 4 πst anniversary
>The Gallery's search features are so broken, they display content from inZoi
>The Simology panel now includes Disabilities, Psychoses, Fandoms, Religious Beliefs, Stomach Contents, Political Beliefs, and Satisfied With the Player's DLC Purchases meter. Opening the Simology panel crashes the game
>The Sims has a new TV show! Hopefully it will last longer than a season
>EAxis is under fire for their collab with a new make-up brand, as all of the IRL collab items leak nuclear waste
>EAxis refuses to comment. In fact, communication with EA has completely broken down
>On the plus side, we got leaks for EP 87: Get to Buying My Pet Second Stuff
>Still no carsIf only we had Get Dragons future would not be so Grim 💀

Why do so many of these things strike me as actually realistic for EA? This one in particular sent me:
>NPC Sims will appear in game with content you don't own, including clothes, traits and life states. They lose this content if you add them to your household. This is to motivate you into buying content and complete your game
Diabolical! 😅 Don't give them any ideas!

Like many, I highly dislike this decision and I actually think it is a poor choice for the long run. There are many Simmers who may love TS4, but there are also many who only play it because there are not many options out there and they wish there would be a new one with better features and that had expanded on the previous versions like 2 &3. I am one of those people.
From the beginning TS4 was missing basic features and they had to catch up in order to even feel like they have even a slightly complete/full base game. 10 years for a game is a long long time. I truly wish they would reconsider this choice.
I have been losing more and more hope with this franchise after all of their choices over the past decade and this literally just crushed it further. I love this franchise as a whole and I do love certain aspects they have added to TS4, but the game as a whole is not fulfilling enough for many because at it's core feels empty and i don't think any updates can change that when it's a core foundational issue.
The Emotions system has been one of the worst features ever implemented into this franchise, and I will stand by that. The systems that TS2/3 had worked way better and those games are between15-20 years old. I am just really tired. Also the pre-alpha images of project Rene look literally like a mobile game D: I don't even know how to feel at this point except major disappointment and sadness. lol.

I am wondering if the creators that made the kit get a cut of the profit too?
Also, Project Rene continues. That is interesting... There were rumors already that it has been cancelled.
Finally, there's one line I doubt is even true:
The 'Happy at Home' event was our first foray into a new way to play and we were encouraged to see how many of you enjoyed this new feature.
Ok... Haven't seen positive reactions while it was going on though...
- Horrorgirl6Seasoned Veteran
There was hardly any truth in the rumors. What happens was the ps5 version was cancelled.People thought the whole game was cancelled.
- EgonVMSeasoned Ace
Thanks for clarifying. Didn't know that PS5 version got cancelled, but I guess that console deserves it after years of excluding smaller country players from PSN and blocking them access to some Sony games on Steam.
- NoahLGPSeasoned Ace
Happy At Home event was a game of "launch, claim & quit".
I don't know about US but in France people were still at school, at work or passing tests (teen) in June. this event was 1 month too early.

Variety article with Kate Gorman, VP/GM of The Sims :
“The way to think about it is, historically, ‘The Sims’ franchise started with ‘Sims 1’ and then ‘Sims 2,’ ‘3’ and ‘4.’ And they were seen as replacements for the previous products,” Gorman said. “What we’re really working with our community on is this a new era of ‘The Sims.’ We are not going to be working on replacements of previous projects; we’re only going to be adding to our universe. With that, you’ll see there are more ways to experience ‘The Sims’ on different platforms, different ways to play, transmedia, and lots of great offerings within this universe. So absolutely, we’re still continuing to support ‘TS4’ more than ever. Still continue to deliver expansion packs and updates and fixes. But what this is to say is, the way we’re going to do things going forward is a little different. And it’s really exciting and it’s really the most expansive iteration of ‘The Sims’ yet.”
(For a mysterious reason my brain thought "expensive" when I read "expansive")
- dianed485New Scout
Same ! Well, it probably IS the most expensive though at this point.

Sooo the Creator Network kinda makes me feel weird about them trying to get free labor. EA won't have to pay for kit creations anymore, they can just trade "perks" and have community members, who were getting their own monetary funding for their work from community support, do it for EA for nothing. Oh, except for the game code that their followers can put into their purchases, I guess, which isn't likely to amount to much. Essentially, EA gets free game developers who can work on the little things, the tidbits that keep the players happy while waiting for the "bigger" content, which will probably be utilizing AI more and more with every project. And requiring more fixes.
* Side-eye to EA*
I will say, though, that the collabs are always well-done. I just don't want to see creators taken advantage of and get a bum deal.
And, using the community to playtest, which could be a good thing, but is that so they can keep a tiny QA team and let players do the work? I hope not. Yeah, I have trust issues with EA, lol.
Updates would normally sound good, except for the overuse of the term "modernize" that makes me clench in trepidation. If they're messing around too much with cross-game compatibility and fiddling with the game engine and making big changes to the foundation, will it create more permanent issues? 😬
Also, can this game handle the weight of many more years of packs and updates to come? Even with a new fix-it team, it's a LOT to keep up on, and the game is sputtering a lot in various ways, still. This team will constantly be trying to play catch-up, as they still are right now.
Movie, meh. They chose Amazon. After Rings of Power, which is the absolute worst writing I've ever seen in a series, I'm not jumping for joy. Not really sure how the concept will play out, but...we'll see.
As for multi-player, that's a general no. Although, I'm not against giving it a try, but not if it looks like those pics. I'm hoping those are from the mobile, which I just won't play anyway. If Rene is a further dumbed down Sims 4, it won't interest me. But they are just early designs, so I won't say anything more until it's closer to completion.
Now. Tell me there are more fantasy themes to come; sci-fi, pirates, dragons, Egyptian mummies, Genies, Plantsim overhaul, apocalyptic challenges, adventures, superheroes, Alien planets to visit, cyborgs, and of course, Fae in both dark and light... and you'll have my full attention. 😉 Until then, I'm just hoping my game stabilizes with the next patch so I can enjoy the Grim event. (Please don't break my anti-phone mod again!) And I do really look forward to the Death pack. 🤘💀👻⚰️🖤
One last thing...remaster/remake Sims 2! Pleeeaaase! 💗- LiELFSeasoned Ace
Oh, and I hope there's a neighborhood editing tool on the horizon with these big plans! Come on, already. It's a staple of the previous games.
- Karamazov123Seasoned Hotshot
I do have one more minor complaint: that logo. I'm so sick of this minimalist logo stuff. For a franchise whose identity is built on chaos, uniqueness and going against the grain of everything else, I hate seeing the logos become increasingly more uniform and bland. Minimalism was a design trend 10 years ago, surely we can move past it?
Mixed potatosalad of thoughts
the last event left me bit salty so uh, yeah I'll just see how this one goes
Creator kits I'm kind of interested to see how it goes too but so far the collab kits we have are rather nice so could be good news
and ofcourse terribly curious about the update 👀
as for Rene and the future uh... *escapes into my coffin* too much future
I suppose I might watch that movie in my coffin if I'm brave enough but I'll need some popcorn
- NoahLGPSeasoned Ace
Creator Kits ... finally CC for console players !!!!
- Horrorgirl6Seasoned Veteran
I think the sims are now trying to be aserise of games instead of one main one .
With the rumors project delorose
I can now see the sims making multiple games at once.A cozy game base on my sim with more life sim elements .
A more complex base games games that could be a more mature version of the sims gear towards the adult player base with realistic graphics maybe project Delores.
Project Renee be another cozy with multiplayer.
The sims are expanding ,ea knows it's need to be different.
- NoahLGPSeasoned Ace
In term of development, realistic games are very expensive and long to develop. For example Paralives development required less people and less money (less than $2M) than Life By You ($20M) and inZOI.
